This wasn’t the first time I’d heard of a Mac; I reckoned they were nothing more than a fancy-looking gadget. Over the next year I would become more accustomed to the computer, learning all of its programs and capabilities. However, there was one curious program that I couldn’t wrap my mind around: GarageBand. I always felt like something was missing, until one day we bought an electric piano. Curious, I inspected the piano to see exactly what I could do with it. I noticed an odd cord slot in the back and asked my dad if we had any cords that plugged into it. He fumbled through his drawer of mixed cords and pulled one out. I inserted both ends into the computer and the piano. I opened GarageBand, and instantly I knew I had found the answer to my question. I had unlocked its full potential; the application gave me options for fantastic instruments I hadn’t even heard of, like “Pumping Synth Waves” or “Fizzy Layered Bass”. From that moment, my music ambitions would flourish, leading to countless song recordings, hour-long sessions of fine-tuning my songs in GarageBand, and overall transforming the way I look at music.
I can’t imagine a life of music without using technology. Computers have changed how I learn, interpret, and experience music. GarageBand has provided me with a musical experience that I will never forget. Seeing this application of computer and mathematics into my own musical life,
