In many circumstances, a specific event in life can have an everlasting effect on a person and alter his/her sense of direction. Maybe the most unexpected incident that one has endured changes his or her life and has an everlasting effect on how he or she chooses to live in the present time. What began as an adventurous day, ended in a freighting night. My near death experience has influenced my sense of direction by acknowledging that life is too short.
My senior year of high school had just ended, and I loved the freedom and that had come from graduating. Some friends and I had planned to visit Cancun as a graduating gift to ourselves. When the day came to finally depart, I felt extremely happy to see what we had planned for months was finally coming true. On a Monday morning in the city of Cancun, my friends

I will be happy with an average salary as long as I live life and I’m able to enjoy my later years. Appreciating my friends and family now shows to be an asset in my favor. My view has changed the way I see life due to the incident, which changed my outcome that life is too short. One moment we could be on cloud nine having a beautiful view of Cancun, and the next we could be in a hospital. This experience has shown me the difference between the things that are wanted and the things that are most important in life.
A single event could be one of the most life changing moments in someone’s life. It just goes to show that anytime can be your time. I experienced a beautiful breathtaking place, and I am thankful I witness something of this caliber but even more thankful for the experience. With every obstacle comes a triumph and that is when I look upon all that I have achieved after the incident, it is what I’m truly

In the article, The Adverse Impact of Racial Microaggressions on College Students’ Self-Esteem the authors, Kevin L. Nadal, Yinglee Wong, Katie E. Griffin, Kristin Davidoff, and Julie Sriken studied micro aggression behaviors and their effects on African- Americans, Asian Americans, Latino/as, multiracial, and European Americans self- esteem. It was hypothesized that African Americans were the racial group that would most likely be targeted due to their past with slavery and fight for equal treatment. Throughout the study, the authors were proven to be correct. The study substantiated enough content to demonstrate that African- Americans are more likely to be victims to micro aggression behaviors and consequently lower their self-esteem. Also, in their findings, it was concluded that European American’s were the racial group to least likely experience a form of racism.…

The panic and relief that that situation and many others over the years brought exposed me to the insane vigilance it takes to be a protector. Learning how to ride for the first time a beast so large it could crush me underfoot. Growing and grooming and learning with that same beast until I called it Beauty, and felt the freedom of truly running on its back. All of these experiences, from the heights to the nitty gritty ground, taught me and grew me and let me live. Without them, without those women and girls who poured into me and my life, I would’t be who I am today.…

It’s very strange how one experience or choice you make in your life can change the rest of your life that follows that event, would you then in turn change these decisions you made. Such as your what if your mom conceived you not on the knowing basis. What if everyone was telling her not to because she was to be a single mom and that’s not a world a child should be born into, but then what if she challenged this belief that she grew up with. This then in turn affected all her choices later in life, but then vice versa what if she didn't challenge this belief and stuck with what she knew. This may be of the more extreme choices in life that some people must make but we all have that certain time in our life that comes where we must break away and make…

Everyone knows the YMCA song, but everyone doesn’t have the same connection to it that I do. This building never contained one life changing event for me, but it has been a pivotal place in my life. A place I’ve referred to as home many times, the YMCA has shaped who I am as a man. This pivotal spot is where I suffered my first traumatic injury, changing how I do things for the rest of my life; but also was the place I went to when coping with family incidents. This institution, in particular the basketball gym, helped me find myself, changing my life forever.…

My series of rather challenging events seven years ago, when my family moved from Myanmar to the United States. I had just turned nine when my sister received news that she was accepted into UC Berkeley. My whole family was ecstatic as we prepared for our move to San Francisco. People tried to explain to me what it would be like to live on the other side of the ocean. Little did I know, San Francisco and Yangon were polar opposites - one a bustling, concrete city and the other a quiet, somber town.…

In life there’s always that one moment which changes your perspective on everything. Some may not notice at first, however, in my case it was handed to me on a silver platter. It all started when I was in the sixth grade. I must admit it was not a big surprise, but being told that because of something I could not control I would still have to change my life kind of scared me. After many tests and several doctors visits, I soon discovered the weakness in my lungs every time I ran and the reason I had struggled to play basketball in my earlier years.…

During the summer of 2014, my family and I enjoyed a vacation in one of the most beautiful place I have ever visited. My uncle had won a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the whole family and we were ecstatic to say the least. I remember looking at pictures of the unbelievable mansion we would be staying in called Casa China Blanca, but no picture captured how amazing it truly was. Although, the entire city was not as luxurious as our gated community, I still believe Puerto Vallarta is one of the most enjoyable places I have ever been to. Upon arrival, my family and I piled into the chaotic airport filled with hundreds of people.…
