How It's Like To Be Muslim Me
Sitting in my seat observing my surroundings, I saw a couple, sitting a few seats ahead of me, strangely dressed. I had a sinking feeling in my stomach that something was horribly wrong. That these people were out to terrorize the passengers and me. I sat there praying to Allah, reciting the same prayers that those strangely dressed passenger may have recited.
I am a Muslim. I believe in my faith. I believe in God. I believe that all people have been created equally, yet I know that not everyone is accepted, not even tolerated.
Being brought up in a fairly diverse and accepting community I have rarely been jugged for being a Muslim nor have I been harassed, but I have been in situations full of fear because of my religion.

We learned how to be good people, never harming others, and to treat all people with respect.
From time to time I would view a video where an ignorant person would claim that every muslim was a terrorist. I would question God, asking why? Why do these people think so low of us? Why are these terrorists waging war plegining on the holy book while going against the bases of Islam? Why do people affiliate Islam with terrorism? Then I would think back to my teachings and conclude that these people don't understand that Islam is a religion of peace, because they have never seen it. The only representation of Islam that they have, is from the radical ‘muslims’ which are less than 1% of all

Growing up and being an American Muslim after the tragic event of 9/11 was very tough for many. They faced all kinds of prejudice, making them fearful for their lives in their own home. One American Muslim, named Shawna Ayoub Ainslie, wrote an article in the Huffington Post about how her roots had cost her her life. She no longer felt safe in her community and started to doubt her relationship with her home country, Islam. Some ways 9/11 had changed Shawna’s life was how she became afraid to go outside, stopped looking up when walking down the street, changed the way she dressed, stopped going to religion events, and even had to watch her kids very closely while they played outside.…

With this group I chose to discuss I learned a lot of new things about this particular group of people. I learned that all Muslim people are not a part of a terrorist organization. Also, most Muslim people are grouped with people who share the same beliefs with respect to the religion they chose to take part in. On the other hand, I learned that there are those Muslim people who really believe violence and killing is the right thing to do. In order to get their message across or to be heard they really have to go out trying to kill groups on innocent people.…

Muslims got beaten, ridiculed, and even killed by people that could not realize that not every Muslim seeks domination against the United States. Muslim men, women, and even children were scared to walk outside their home because of stubborn people that refuse to believe almost all Muslims perform no terrorist attacks. Some Arabic Muslims needed to perform religious statements condemning terrorism in front of Americans just to prove they are innocent in the 9/11 attack. It took one action from the Muslims to completely shun all of their peoples’…

Ever since the 9-11 attack, we have discriminated against people that look Muslim, or practice Muslim traditions. In today's world when I see a Muslim person I immediately think about terrorism since I know that some of these terrorist groups are muslim, but we only hear about the horrible events they do. America as a whole only wants to see Muslims as a disgraceful group because of the 9-11 attacks, and the terrible events that a few people of Muslim culture committed. Randy Halstrom, my grandfather, who was 56 years old at the time of the attack said, “My view did change on Muslims until I realized that not all Muslims think the same as those terrorists who were behind the 9-11 attacks.” Randy, like most people at the time, thought all Muslims were horrible after these attacks, but later realized that these terrorists were a select few of the Muslim population that committed these crimes.…

The word 'Islam' means 'peace.' The word 'Muslim' means 'one who surrenders to God.' But the press makes us seem like haters.” This quote by Muhammad Ali shows how people’s perception of Islam isn’t the ideal meaning of Islam and due to ignorance, anyone who is classified as Muslim or Islam is seen as an evil person. This made me wonder what Islam really is, how it is perceived in the Middle East, where most of the region is dominated with this specific religion, and how that view of Islam impacts America.…

Jihadism is not necessarily associated with the Islamic religion. Extremists use Islam and classical Jihad for their own political means. Most Muslims focus on the inner Jihad and only participate in the outer struggle characterized by being a charitable person. The lesser jihad is an out dated religious doctrine, that is being wrongfully brought back by radical Islamic groups due to the lack of leadership and stability in the middle east. In conclusion, today’s society must be educated on the proper meaning of Jihad in order to understand today’s conflicts.…
