How I Was Successful

Has there ever been a time in your life where you felt were successful? Well, I have felt successful one time in my life. The time I felt successful was when I bought, traded, sold, and even built a computer.

It all started when I was around 14 years of age. After begging my parents, they finally let me order parts for a computer off of the internet to be shipped to my house. At the time I had no clue on how to build a computer, or even what the parts were. After some 5 hours, my brother, Stephen, tried to teach me everything I needed to know about computers and how to put to put the parts together. After waiting three long week for all the parts to come in, we finally had a chance to sit down and put it together, piece by piece. While we were putting it together, I learned so much and how much money you can get out of building a computer and selling it. After we finished building the computer, I put it up for sale on a website called, "Craigslist." At the time I did not know how much the computer was worth, but I got an offer for 900 dollars. Everything with only parts were done through another website called, "eBay." All of this required a lot of overseas transactions, which cost my brother and I a lot of money. Eventually we got all of it back because some parts in other countries are more expensive than the same parts in the United States. After 3 long, exhausting, and successful years, we finally stopped buying, selling, and trading computer parts.

Buying, selling, and trading computers has taught me a lot. It taught me that success comes in many different ways. Success doesn't have to be anything big, it can be the smallest thing in the world such as screwing in a light bulb. It also taught me that you have to work for even the smallest form of success. That's the story of the one time I was

My key life lessons are that nothing beats hard work and if you treat others with respect, they will generally treat you with respect. Hard work and effort are the main aspects that lead to “lucky” things happening. Good things don’t just fall into people’s laps, the ones that have the most “luck” generally are those that put in the most effort and work. Also, I have learned that when you truly respect those around, they will respect you back and life is much easier when you aren’t doing things behind each other’s backs.…

A weakness that I have is that I do not know how to say no to individuals that ask me for help since I love to help people. It is important that I learn to say no when helping others gets in the way of me accomplishing my tasks. It is important that I do both, but not when I run the risk of not meeting my deadlines and me staying late hours after work to get my work done. It has not been an easy task saying no, but I am learning to be okay with saying no because it is important that it does not interfere with my responsibilities.…

Failure has always been a huge aspect in my life recurring in everything I indulge myself in; whether it be academically, athletically, or even Boy Scouts. I tend to have a knack for challenging myself till I am unable to complete the task given to me, whilst this could be good in some ways it also puts me in some not favorable situations. More recently I had the thought of completing a bike race , after receiving medical attention for a concussion and a broken collarbone. This was not necessarily the smartest decision on my part, especially since the race was longer than I have ever raced before and also a three day event.…

Well I thought wrong because during the first day of practice I was surprised by the intensity and realized I was out of shape. It was a pretty little corner with every tool you could imagine to fix a computer; the only thing that was missing was my computer. When I enquired about that, Sarah beamed at me and said “well that is your first task, to build your own computer, then start using it.” I gulped, before asking where the computer was. She pointed to it in a little corner and left me on my own to start work.…
