Personal Narrative: How I Fought Childhood Obesity

How I Fought Childhood Obesity There has always been different body sizes and shapes. Obesity puts people at a high risk of developing many serious illnesses, such as, diabetes, breathing issues, and multiple other detrimental illnesses. Obesity is never too late to prevent; even though this problem is creeping up on the American population, I fought back. I personally fell victim to childhood obesity. I have been always a little chubbier than all the other kids throughout elementary school, but around the start of junior high, things started to change. I changed for the worse; my belly was busting at the seams breaking at 200 pounds. You could’ve felt the earth shake miles away. I always had frozen food, processed cakes, and sauce overload. My mom wasn’t the problem, she regularly cooked up amazing food with an abundance of fresh vegetables, but I always snuck and ate other things.
My doctor said to me on my annual check up, “Young man, you need to fix your eating habits. You have a risk of obtaining diabetes before you reach eighteen. Your blood pressure is already high.”
I usually responded with a lackluster response, to these doctor visits, but my health issues were escalating.

This wouldn’t be one of those periods where I said I wanted to change, but a serious commitment to a better life. This would be the start of my long journey. The first month I had a languid attempt. I started by limiting all caloric drinks and sauces. Those are the main contributors to unnecessary calories. The next step was slowly incorporating exercise, something that I only dreamt of doing before. I tried out different exercises, and I found something that I would come to know and love, hiking.
