Improved Essays
Have you ever been connected to a group of people who are exactly like you? For me, I was able to do so. For the entirety of my life, there has been a group of people who I have been able to connect with and compare myself to. During both high school and currently in college I have been able to connect with kids in both the community around me and the other kids and cadets on my college baseball team.
Ever since I was a child I was fascinated with sports. I enjoyed watching them and even more playing them. I’ve always been a very proactive kid which has allowed myself to make new friends wherever I go. Throughout high school and some of the middle school years, I was always involved in multiple sports. Whether it be football in the fall,

In the end, we didn’t play better but we did all connect and build great bonds. During the season I was able to find things out about other kids on my team, like what they enjoy, who they are friends with and even if they played sports when they were younger. Many of us had a lot of differences that no one knew about. One player used to work as a mechanic. So I had him show me how to do oil changes. Needless to say, I have him help me because it takes me so long to do it. Being on this team also allowed me to travel more and do a lot of community services. We as a team would hold car washes to anyone who needed their car washed. After we were finished we’d offer the idea for a generous donation to our youth baseball league. Our coach believed that you not only play for your team, you play for your community, your friends, and your family. So being connected with our town was a huge factor in how we were perceived. This also made our fundraising more productive and enjoyable. We were able to do more clinics with the youth kids and more families in the community came to our games; which made the games even more

It was springtime during the year of 2012, I was just about to start my summer. I was looking on the internet for sports to do in Kaneland, because I wanted to compete at a higher level. But I was not always comfortable with playing on a travel baseball team, but I knew this could be a great opportunity for me, so I took a risk and after all it, payed off. I asked “Dad would you think I would be able to compete and play on the travel baseball team” He smiled “Yes, but one thing I learned when I was young and playing baseball is; it is a game of mistakes, and the only way you can succeed is if you practice over and over to improve.”…

At the end of the season we had a potluck with the varsity team and the sophomore team.…

One situation where I found myself in a fixed mindset was when I was a freshman at Mountain Pointe high school trying to make the baseball team. At the time, I had a half-hearted passion for baseball that made me want to be on the school baseball team, but I felt that everything would come natural to me because I was Dominican. I was quite proud of how Dominicans were typically great at baseball quite naturally it seemed. However, with this knowledge I became highly critical about everything I did when playing baseball at the high school camps before the baseball tryouts. I did not focus on overall improvement as I tried to ensure that every throw, batting, and pitch was perfect.…

They gave us techniques to keep the ground wet and even helped us build the fence.…

It all started a couple months ago in the middle of the country, at a small community college, I heard from my coach that I just met, “Give it all right now because you never know when you caught your last ball, threw your last ball, or hit your last ball.” This quote gave me thought and I figured that he was right, like what if I get into a car crash and the aftermath of the accident meant that I lose my legs, my arms, or I even die. That’s when I reflected on the idea that I should make the most of my baseball career while I still have the likelihood of playing baseball. When I was four years old I watched television in a plethora and I stumbled upon a Major League Baseball game and after that game I told myself that I was going…

Now, 16 years later I absolutely love everything about the game of baseball. So much that I have a job with the Detroit Tigers, who are a professional Major League Baseball team.…
