Personal Narrative: How Football Has Changed My Life

Vince Lombardi addressed football as, ¨Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and respect of authority¨. Throughout my lifetime I have had many experiences, some great, others, not so great, but no matter what, I have put full effort and commitment with everything that I have done. The most valued experience that I have is football. Football has shaped me into the person I am today and has laid a foundation in which I could build my values on. I started playing the game since I was in grade school. Till this day, the excitement of strapping on my pads and hearing the crack of the helmets has not changed one bit. I am currently on the Holmen High School football team, which is a respectable program that idolizes its core values from the military. …show more content…
From waking up at 5:30 to lift weights, to attending leadership classes in order to become a better leader on the football field and in life. After watching the varsity team on the field when I was a sophomore, I told myself if I wanted to be in their shoes, I would have to sacrifice and do everything I could to achieve my goals. From then on, I was all in. The changes I made in my life from my sophomore to junior year was all to become a better football player. From eating healthier and working out more to; spending hours watching film and doing football drills, I did it all. However the biggest change I had to make was quitting the sport that I have been playing since I was five, which was basketball, and joining the wrestling team. Looking back on my decision, I could not have made a better choice, as wrestling imitated the key characteristics of football like, grit, work ethic, and dedication.
