Personal Narrative: How Curveball Changed My Life

Improved Essays
I stared in at my catcher, Drew Wessel, beads of sweat fell off my forehead. It was the bottom of the sixth and we were one out away from winning the World Series, he flashed me a two which meant curveball. I checked the runner, got my grip on the ball, and checked the runner again. I lifted my leg and let go of the ball. We were the last game of the tournament, it was August 1st and the daylight was just starting to slip behind the Rocky Mountains in center field. We were playing a team from Oklahoma City in the World Series championship. My trip to Colorado changed my life. It was the most enjoyable experience I've ever had. I'll never forget that week. I woke up that morning feeling good, I threw on my retro jersey (our championship jersey) …show more content…
I knew it was going to be hard to get hits off of him but I knew we could do it. Our leadoff hitter, Tyson Gordon, took two balls and then found a pitch he liked and sent a hard grounder to shortstop, the shortstop took his time and Tyson beat it out! I was up next and the pitcher caught me off guard with a first pitch curveball. I was out front but managed to get it over the third base line. Tyson got to third and the ball got away from the cutoff man and Tyson scored! Our three hitter, a short but strong kid from Texas, named Ethan, walked on four pitches. My teams four hitter Tyler Ruhl, hit a double to left center scoring me and getting Ethan to third. Then our five hitter, Jake Cromer, hit a double to left center, scoring Ethan and Tyler. We got another hit but didn’t score again that inning. Our pitcher shut them down, 1-2-3. All of the momentum was going our way but we knew we couldn’t step off the gas …show more content…
Our leadoff hitter had a leadoff double, but was then picked off right away. The next two batters weren’t a threat either. The Oklahoma Elite managed to sneak across a run in the bottom of the second. We didn’t want them to catch back up so we decided to kick it in gear. The rest of the game we remained in the driver’s seat. We scored three runs in the third inning and four in the fourth. They scratched across a few runs and by the time the sixth inning rolled around, it was 11-4, us. The run rule came into play and the bottom of the sixth would be the last inning if they couldn’t get a run. I was pitching. The first batter got on due to an error from our shortstop. The next hitter hit a hard ground ball to second, but he bobbled it and only got the runner at second and we didn’t have time to get a double play. I struck the next batter out. The fourth and final batter worked his way into a 2-2 count, but then I threw him a curveball and he hit a line drive to Tyson Gordon. He caught it! My catcher met me halfway between home plate I hugged him and dropped to the ground waiting for the dogpile. After that, we shook hands and got our trophies and took our pictures with people and had post-game interviews with Triple Crown Sports (the host of the tournament). We got free t-shirts, and our coach got a bracket of all of our games in

First Home Run The pitcher steps on to the mound and is ready to pitch, and whoosh in comes a fastball and crack the way I hit the ball sounded like banging a hammer on a piece of metal and as I took off running I watched the ball sail out of the park for my first home run. As I rounded second base I could hear the voices of sister Larissa my mom Leeann and my dad John screaming for me and could feel a lot of excitement from the crowd. In this story I am going to tell you about when I hit my first home run and second home run and how doing such really amazing thing can humble you.. So I’m feeling a lot better with the series led and how we are playing and hitting. So game 3 we started out early. Winning the game 8 to 3 thanks to Alex Gordan with a 3-run double & Eric Hosmer’s 3-run homer also with Mike Moustakes 2-run homer. With this win I was literally screaming we were going to play the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Championship Series. ALCS vs Orioles.…

Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. It’s so intense that you could take a nap on the field with everything out there. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

The game of baseball has always been in my life since I was a child. My love for the game began when I was five years of age signing up for tee ball at the local little league. As a child, I would imagine myself as a professional ballplayer. I would mimic my idols every chance I had or I would dream of myself being in a critical situation to win the game and to make history. Now, I am chasing my dream by trying to become one of those greats who played the game.…

My recurrent shoulder dislocations were a constant battle, but a battle in which I’d always won. After a dislocation, all it took was a couple weeks of physical therapy before I could return to the baseball field. Although, after my fifth dislocation I ended up sitting in the hospital awaiting the results of my MRI with an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. My surgeon soon returned with news that my injury required a season-ending surgery. Thus, I had a Bankart Repair on my throwing shoulder, and afterwards, although devastated, I supported my teammates from the sidelines for the entirety of the season.…

That was the longest time that I ever sat on the bench for baseball in my entire career. The 2 weeks pass and now we have our health line up full and healthy which ment Alex was back in the pitching rotation, and therefore I was able to play as well. Now we are getting into play-offs and we 10-run both teams in regionals to make it to sectionals. We made it to sectionals and 10-run both of those teams as well, only allowing 2 runs in all of the 4 play-off games we have played. We make it to state in Appleton.…
