Personal Narrative: How Chi Omega Changed My Life

Improved Essays
I never imagined myself joining a sorority when I was growing up, but after staying with Chi Omega as a prospective student, I changed my mind. College was totally new territory for me, and I had no support system at William Woods. I was searching for a sisterhood, group of friends, and something to push me to better myself daily. I found all of that and more upon joining Chi Omega. The other houses had their strong points and some great girls, however none of them compared to what Chi Omega offered to me. To start with, I have found my support system and a home away from home here. I’ve made some of my best friends in this house, and I’m proud to call them my sisters. I wouldn’t be able to stand my stressful schedule, being so far away from …show more content…
It also means becoming a better version of myself not only for my benefit, but for the benefit of my sisters everywhere. If I create a bad reputation for myself, that not only negatively affects me, it impacts my sisters negatively too. Furthermore, our symphony holds me to a higher standard and makes me strive to be a better version of myself daily. It encourages me to put school first, which the house assists me through academic goal setting and other scholarly events, to never be discouraged, to include everyone, to work hard, and to be kind. Additionally, the house fuels my drive to get involved on campus and in the community. It makes me want to assume leadership positions in clubs on campus and in the house. As a result of all of these, I am developing into a well-rounded, enhanced version of who I was before college. Finally, being a Chi Omega means being a part of something much greater than …show more content…
College is already a massive financial burden on my parents and me without adding on monthly dues for the house. To begin with, I’m having to focus all of my efforts on school in order to maintain my GPA. Consequently, I can’t work this semester to help ease some of that load off of my parent’s and my shoulders like I did last year. Additionally, last year I wasn’t able to be involved in as many clubs as I wanted to, due to my job. As a result of not working this year, I’m actually able to participate in all of the clubs that I want to, which will look good on veterinary or medical school applications. To conclude, my dad is getting older and can’t retire because he’s aiming to support me through school. My mom got laid off and had to take a job that she doesn’t genuinely enjoy to take some of the pressure off of my dad. I want to be able to help out in any way possible, and this is a wonderful opportunity. It not only makes me feel like I am diminishing some of the financial burden on my parent’s and my own shoulders, it gives me a chance to express just how much I love and am honored to be a Chi Omega. In conclusion, receiving this scholarship will temporarily reduce some of the expenses of college, which will aid my parent’s peace of mind, and make me feel like I am contributing more to the cost of being in the house. As a result, I will be able to better focus my efforts on becoming more

Why are you applying for this position? I think the new member education program is essential for the transitioning new sister in determining if Delta Zeta is the right fit for her. If the process goes the way it is supposed to, it will make the young women excited to wake up and call herself a sister in our chapter. For myself, it’s crucial to be a part of changes that influenced yourself in some way. For just going through the process myself, I think the program was great; however, I want to be a part of the team to make it even better.…

This paper seeks to analyze the failure to complete the planned organizational exit of graduating seniors after a successful completion of the socialization process in Alpha Chi Omega, or “Alpha Chi,” at SMU through my observations and personal experience. The Socialization Theory and, specifically, the Model of Planned Organizational Exit will be the basis for this analysis. The purpose of this paper is to identify why the graduating seniors of SMU Alpha Chi Omega fail to successfully complete the stages of planned organizational exit, despite successfully becoming socialized members, and the ways in which SMU Alpha Chi Omega can fix this problem for future pledge classes. Alpha Chi Omega Seven female undergraduates founded Alpha Chi on October 15, 1885 at DePauw University, in Greencastle, Indiana. The sorority was established to form a women’s society within the school (“Our History”).…

or any sorority for that matter, except for what I hear on my college campus, which are basically stigmas (good and bad) that are tied to each sorority. After months and months of my ears being flooded with “Zeta this, Gamma Rho that, AKA this, and Delta that,” and my friends telling me that I should pledge Delta because I’m very blunt and have an attitude, I literally thought the whole sorority (sisterhood) and fraternity (brotherhood) thing was stupid and childish. I told myself that I would never be apart of any sisterhood and I would be my own support, and my own organization. However, after continued pestering from my friends about how I should become a Delta because of my fitted Delta personality, I decided to do some research. The one thing that sold me on wanting to become a…

Each member of the fraternity is required to put in a minimum of five community service hours per semester and is encouraged to go beyond that number. The organization utilizes a point system to ensure that each member is doing their part and getting involved in charity and on campus. Some of the community service efforts discussed in the meeting included setting up the fallen soldiers 5k, the out of the darkness suicide prevention walk, and fundraising for books to give to an elementary school in town.…
