Whenever someone asks me what my favorite sport is, I always exclaim that Basketball is my favorite among all the sports I participate in. I have many reasons why I think Basketball is a amazing sport that should be loved and enjoyed by everyone. But also, people wonder why Basketball is my favorite sport and I tell them it made me think more about my future and how I can improve my chances at getting a brighter future. It all started on the year of December 8, 2015, when our first basketball meeting was announced. When we all arrived to the meeting, we all were skeptical about what the coaches were talking about and drawing out for us on a dry erase

We started practice discussing what we were planning to do this basketball season, and afterwards we ran through a few basketball drills that we would do later on in month that would be effective to our shooting accuracy. When the end of first practice, our coach made an offer that seemed almost real but was just a joke that was just misunderstood. Our coaches made a promise to us to receive a soda and cookie for making it through first day of practice, but instead of getting those things, our coaches made us to a running exercise that lasted about 15 minutes. We had to run fast up and down the stairs, and whoever walked would have to spend more time doing the workout. I was the only person on the team that actually ran long mileage before basketball season. I was in a sport called cross country, and all we did in that sport was run long distances on roads or golf courses. So I was used to running hard during practice and was up with the seniors when running our

As school ended, I was feeling dejected. Then I decided that I would improve my game over the summer and try to make the ninth grade basketball team. But, there was a problem. I was going to India for the whole summer, as usual, and I did not have a hoop or a basketball there. When I got to India, I asked my uncle if he could buy me a basketball and find a court for me to practice on.…

I could see myself getting stronger and better. When my coach called me in to his office to talk after a 3 hour Saturday practice, he articulated to me that I would barely play this season. My hard work would acquire me 20 minutes of playing time for the entire year. I was confused as to why I received no playing time. At one point I wanted to quit and never pick up a basketball.…

People coming from a different planet would think every day things we do in life are weird. What we have adapted to and think are normal look very weird to others who haven’t seen people doing things like this. Such as someone who has never shaved before would think that is very odd to shave your beard. Or someone who has never seen a drive threw would think it’s weird to have people have food handed out the window. As we think other cultures are weird we have to look at the fact that our culture is weird to others People that have never seen basketball would thing it is a bunch of people running around with a ball.…

I walked into Neil Armstrong Middle School's gym, nervous as can be, not ready for basketball tryouts. The only reason I was there was because my dad and sister wanted me to play. I also wanted to play a sport this year, but I didn't think it would be basketball. It was so loud it sounded like someone was yelling in my ear and playing music at the same time. We started doing lay-up drills, I missed so many compared to the other girls.…

Like all children all I ever wanted was to be big and do big people things. I engaged in a few family members that I would look up to and try everything they did. I use to pretend to go grocery shopping and being a parent at times. At the age of eight, I had worn the worst pain ever and that was watching my five, year old brother getting hit by a car while trying to cross the street riding a bicycle that had a loose chain. I remember him trying to get up and get to me, but a few adults that had witnessed the accident had told him to lay down.…

You might not think basketball could help me academically; but it has. Leading up to this basketball game, academically, I was quite different than who I am today. Prior to this game, I did little talking to people that intimidated me, such as teachers, mostly I was just shy. However, after speaking with so many people that I did not know following the game, it has all changed. From that point on, I was brave and unafraid to communicate with teachers.…

During the three nights of tryouts, I was always the first one to finish the sprints, I hustled on every play, and left everything I had on the court. Confident in the way I played, I checked the results when they came out–I had been cut for the second year in a row. My heart dropped and millions of thoughts ran through my mind–I should stop playing basketball, I wasted all my time on something useless, hard work does not pay off. After pondering on these thoughts for several days, I decided to rededicate myself to the sport; I found a more competitive AAU team to play for, IYB Basketball and Wayne PAL Wolfpack, and found myself a trainer. Everyday after finishing my schoolwork, I either went to the gym to lift and play basketball or went to an AAU practice or game.…
