After a hard day’s work, Greg decides to make a midnight store run. There’s a circle k convenience store, just up the road, not wanting to drive too far because of the rain, he stops in to grab some junk food.
“Is that all for you?” Asked the clerk.
“And let me have $20 on pump three.”
After paying, he goes to the pump to fill his tank. While he’s pumping, he spots an odd figure off in the distance. Now, there are lots of homeless people in the area, so he doesn’t think much of it, just continues to pump. Once he hears the click, he’s ready to be on his way.
When he rounds the corner, near the area where he thought he’d saw someone, there actually was a little girl, standing out in the rain.

He felt terrible driving past her without offering help, or at least seeing if she was ok.
“Hey!” He yells over the pouring of the rain. “What are you doing out here?”
The little girl kept quiet.
“Hello!” He called out again.
When she didn’t answer, he threw on his hazards and got out of the car.
“Hey, what are you doing, standing alone in the rain?”
“Mommy forgot me.” She said.
“Do you know where you live? I’ll give you a ride.”
“My mommy forgot me.” She said again, but this time, she was crying.
“Its ok, it’s ok, don’t cry.” He said, picking her up and putting her in the car. “We’ll get you home.”
Greg took her to his house and immediately called the police. He asked dispatch if there had been any missing children in the area, but they’d told him no, there wasn’t.
“Ok sir, we have officers on the way to you now.”
While they waited for the police to show up, Greg gave the girl a towel, to dry off and a blanket, to keep her warm. He offered her some of the junk food he had just bought, but she declined. It seemed like they had been waiting hours for the police, so Greg asked her a few questions, to lighten the mood.
“Do you know your phone number?”
The girl shook her head, no.
