“Xavier, I’m sorry, please stop.” Rebekah began to vociferate. In this moment, her eyes were as red as a stoner’s on April 20th. Her cheeks, however, looked closer to a toddler’s bottom after breaking a valuable urn; water streaming down the face, crisp and clear, like a creek unsoiled by man.
“You ARE replaceable!” I screamed at my girlfriend, my fists familiarizing themselves with her face. “Cheat on me again, I won’t hesitate to cut your throat, you stupid whore!” That was when I felt a pain in my throat, ironic. Perhaps yelling wasn’t the best way to get my point across. My esophagus was tingling, and my uvula felt as though it was stuck on my tongue instead of in my throat where it should be. “You think I should forgive you right?

Dan, one of my closer friends, well, drinking buddies, good guy though. He doesn’t wash his hair very well at all, sometimes I believe if I got all the grease from his hair and put it in a deep fryer, I could make enough fries for every McDonald’s costumer to get a complimentary large fry with their meal. Speaking of which, how is his hair not burning off of his head by now? My thoughts are so distracting, what did he ask again? Oh yeah, where’s Rebekah, I need to think of a lie soon. “We got in a fight a few hours ago, she just left. What’s going on out here?” I knew what was going on, some idiot forgot to turn off their oven. I couldn’t ask for a better time though. After giving me a short summary of what he knew, Dan sprinted off. I told him I needed to grab something and that I would meet him downstairs. “Hey Rebekah, how are you?” I heard her muffled screams from under the socks. “Don’t you just look adorable?” She was covered in tears, her makeup running down her face, sweat trying to escape her body to sacrifice itself to the heat. “At least you’ll never cheat on me again, right?” I walked to the kitchen and grabbed a large bottle of lighter fluid. Once I got back, I noticed she had taken off a lot of the tape. Trying to show my affection, I waited until she had removed the bit from her eyes and I greeted her with my smiling face as I commenced pouring lighter fluid all over her. Once she was wet enough that I believed she couldn’t get away, I began to move away. “Later babe,” I said, slamming the door and running down the

Twenty-two years ago on January 4th, 1994, Taryn Staley was up at Finny Cumberlane to celebrate Gary’s, Taryn’s brother, fifteenth birthday. It was her mom, her step dad, her friend (Amy), Gary, her mom’s friend, four or five of Gary’s friends, and herself who traveled up the Finny Cumberlane mountain side. Their day was spent playing in the snow and snowboarding on the small, snow-capped mountain, but the day took a turn for the worse on their way home. “At 10:00 AM everyone met at our house in Burlington with their snowboarding gear, extra clothes, etc. We also loaded up a camp stove, pans, cups, cocoa and a pot of chile with freetos dip chips for lunch.…

He was beginning to realize just how deeply buried the memory of that day was in his mind, up until today he hadn’t even thought of the day he left his home town. It had been one year ago to this day since he had left and remembering the reason he left made him nauseous and nervous, the only reason he let the memory creep up to the front of his mind is because of the obituary written in the newspaper. The obituary that said Toby Nichols was dead. Again he read his obituary with confusion. It wasn’t just confusion though, it was also a longing to go back home to his family and a sadness because he knew he couldn’t do that, not unless he was willing to potentially get arrested for the death of Carolyn Wilson even though it had been an accident.…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

Sarah McCloud was thinking about Sean Bortles again, her eyes closed. When she first met him, she saw Sean’s welcoming, protective muscular arms and rose tattooed chest; when she got to know him, his heart and his face were cold, like death on a winter's night, arms no longer welcoming and protective but hurtful and ominous. His rose tattoo was a story that she would’ve never wanted to read if she had known the tragic ending from the start. She heard a door slam, and every pretense had fallen.…

It was during the particularly hot August of 1964 that Margaret left her husband for another man. The oppressive, humid heat of the small college-town in West Virginia in the late summer made the usual daily life seem blurry and utterly dream-like. For this reason, Charles knew she was gone but didn’t really believe it; the blank space (almost like a black hole, sucking in bad thoughts and memories to give him a kind of illusioned, pure nostalgia) where she used to be was bathed with white and a suggestive question mark. He had made the subconscious decision to was to clumsily fill the void with alcohol and cigarettes.…

They took the children into the Club of Sons and Freder 's eyes sought Maria, who was kneeling in the street, among the last remaining children, consoling them, and bestowing her loving smile upon weeping and bewildered eyes. Freder ran across to them and carried Maria into the house. “Don 't forget,” he said, letting her down upon a couch before the blazing fire in the entrance hall, and holding captive in his longing arms her half-lying, half-sitting, gently resisting form, “that death and madness and something very like destruction of the world have passed very close by us. After all that has happened, I do not even know the color of your eyes, and you have not yet kissed me once by your own free will.” “Dearest,” said Maria, leaning towards…

My Fall of 2013 Dan Stevens, a famed british actor, once said, “The comfort zone is the great enemy to creativity; moving beyond it necessitates intuition, which in turn configures new perspectives and conquers fears.” Stevens is best known for his role as Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey, and the beast in Beauty and the Beast. This quote has all the elements to explain how I, Heady, conquered my fear of heights three years ago by taking the risk of going out of my comfort zone. “We’re bored,” my cousin Bhav and I exclaimed to my parents in unison. One summer day of 2013 me, my mom, dad, and cousin were walking down a lush path at SeaWorld in California.…
