Personal Narrative: Holocaust Survivor

I am the LNC motto word learn. The definition of learn to me is growing as a person and always discovering new things every day. This matches the LNC motto Learn, Lead, and Serve. A situation when I showed this is when I started reading a autobiography about a holocaust survivor. A little bit ago my great- grandma got really sick and was in the hospital, at one point she was in hospice. The lady who was helping us through hospice was named Leah, she was really nice and fun. Leah had a 95 year-old friend named Susan. What we didn't know about Susan was that she was a Holocaust survivor. When Leah mentioned this I was very excited and wanted to meet Susan, Susan agreed to meet me but on one condition. A few days later I received a book called …show more content…
I'd never really read a autobiography, but the book is sort of like a behind the scenes that other books don't tell you. When I got the book my mom said, “You better start to read that book soon because Susan is 95 you know.” At that point I had already started a series so I didn't get into it until a week after I received the book. The first night I read the book it was cold, I only had one lamp going in my room, as I started to really get into the book i was very impressed with Susan's fantastic use of vocabulary such as the three different languages she used and I was in awe. Her book really puts things into perspective and you could see how incredibly hard it was for her. While she was in a camp they had to keep their face and wands clean, but the had no way of doing that. If they didn't keep their hands and face clean they were sent to the gas. Also in the camp Susan has it deal with lice, bedbugs and the fear of being sent to the gas with one wrong move. I have learned so much already, like how Susan has a permanent dent in her head from being clubbed in the camp. I have also leaned that Susan moved multiple times into multiple camps, and even found friends along the

She wrote this book so beautifully it opened my eyes, I constantly complain about my parents and how they are so noisy about knowing what is going on in my life. It is better to have noisy parents then irresponsible ones. She used such powerful words that made you want to continue reading. The strengths of this book are that is it an easy read, it makes you grateful and also it opens your eyes and makes you realize that not everyone’s family life is just like yours, some people are raised differently than you are. Even though I really enjoyed this book I did find a few weaknesses, one being that at times it was difficult to read and not because of the wording but because of the content.…

She goes from talking about her nice house in ocean park with great family meals. To being in a little shack in the desert. “We woke up early, shivering and coated with dust” (21), for a little 7 year old girl and her siblings to have to live like that is disturbing. She then goes on to explain daily life in the camps. Things like the long lines at the mess hall and not having any wayto get an education at the beginning of her stay at Manzanar.…

Yes it’s not a traditional book one would read for a book report; however, I chose it because I do not really have interest in books that have no personal feeling and are just a general book about average people. This book was very personal and I felt like this helped Firoozeh get her point across better. I felt like I could connect with the little girl who moved to a brand new country at a young age. I felt like I was part of her journey as she went through her life. One thing I did not like about this book is sometimes it felt as if she was not really into the story she was telling.…

Everything she went through was definitely worth it because in the end she was free from slavery and she was happy because of that accomplishment. I personally really enjoyed this book. I really liked this book because it was very interesting to read and it just got me thinking and feeling bad for people who went through similar things that Linda experienced. One thing that made it a bit challenging to follow along with the book was the way it was written. It was written in the way that Linda would talk, a person who wasn’t very educated which did make it a little hard to follow along…

I couldn't agree more, sometimes I think to myself as well if I have any repressed memories that impact my personality. I never used to be so compulsive or expressive, but I think that has to do with a defense mechanism of mine. I know I have some repressed memories that have molded my personality to be more defensive at times, although I don't like that myself, I do feel it is a defense mechanism to be guarded for protection. I honestly did the same thing with the denial mechanism with my best friend during high school. I was in denial because of my friends passing just wasn't acceptable, and when people approached or confronted me, I pretended as though he was on a long vacation.…

In life we face many obstacles such as failures, setbacks, and challenges. Some people let their setbacks defeat them, but for me I’m a survivor. I never let anything hold me back, I always get back up and start all over again and that’s what survivors do. There was a time when I was in the 3rd grade when I realized how much I loved music; I started off writing poetry then that led into me starting to write rap songs. I used to always tell my friends about my songs , but all they ever did was laugh , some friends I had right ? .…
