Personal Narrative: Hishem Alsalman

As I began the task of writing a personal statement that correctly reflected my life, I struggled to find the words. I struggled to put pen to paper, I struggled with the simplest questions about my life. Who is Hishem Alsalman? There have been several impactful moments in my life that I could write about. Nevertheless, it wasn’t until this task that I began thinking about the motivation that has driven me for numerous years. Where did it come from, and how has it shaped me? When I glance at my past, I recognize the moments where I could have given up, and no one would have even thought twice about me failing. Through difficulty, struggle, and sacrifice are when I believe one's character is truly built. Through my internship at the Kentucky State Treasury, I learned I had a true passion for the law world. I spent my time on Capitol Hill attending committee meetings, learning about how laws are formed and the different types of processes. It sanctioned me to meet various different lawyers, congressman, and major political figures who inspired me to pursue a career in law. My parent’s struggles throughout my childhood, have taught me valuable lessons in life and to never give up when things get tough. I have learned that my passion for the future is far more important than my past and where I come from. If I have the honor of being accepted into the Brandeis School of Law, I will exhibit the most exemplary behavior, value the real meaning of integrity, confidentiality, and associate myself in the path to find justice under the
