Personal Narrative: His Grandfather's Journey To Spain

Steve wished to go to Europe all his life and it's finally coming true. His grandfather had died leaving 7 envelopes 1 for each grandson. Steve was assigned the journey to go to Spain. On page 26 it says how His GRANDFATHER WANTS HIM TO recapture the time of importance, danger, love and a sense of being a part of something that would change the world. He was passed on a key, a postcard, a photograph of his grandfather when he was young with a mysterious girl, an address in Spain and several lines of a poem. The journey was not as simple as it seemed. Steve was all alone in a country that’s language he did not know. However Steve managed to go to the address his grandfather gave him and met a girl named Laia. She claimed to be the granddaughter of Maria, and claimed that …show more content…
Laia gave Steve a suitcase that was his grandfather’s, but she said she did not have the key. Steve noticed that the key that his grandfather gave him perfectly fitted in the keyhole. When Steve opened the suitcase he found old newspaper clippings about Fascism in Spain ,a journal that belonged to his grandfather, and a letter . The letter explained that his grandfather had been a soldier in the second World War and was shot down and smuggled into Spain where he met a woman named Maria, who is Laia's grandmother. After Laia and Steve went through all the items in the suitcase, Laia suggests that Steve should come with her to explore all the locations described in the journal. They went to Ebre River, the ruins of Flix Castle, the town of Corbera, and the museum. When they went to the Ebre river he go to know that Anarchists self-governed societies and the Communists believes in the principles of communism fought against each other even though they were supposed to be on the same side, supporting the Republic's fight against Fascism, and Steve's grandfather was a part of the war with the Republics.
