Today was exhausting. I had a lot on my mind when I finally arrived home and settled into my bed. All I could think about was the load of paperwork that my boss had assigned me.
The only good thing was that this occupied my mind and temporarily distracted me from thinking about my mom. Not that I really wanted to forget her, but times had been rough lately. Especially with Elias...
My mother was a wilting plant. I still recall the doctor telling me that she didn't have much time left to live. She was lying in a cold bed and had no choice but to stay there. As my frail mother slowly started to close her eyes, she gave me something that was very special to her. My mom told me to keep it in a safe place; it has been my good-luck charm …show more content…
I noticed that my curtains were wide open and that the trees were gazing at me, but I didn't think too much of it; I probably forgot to close them before falling asleep.
I then felt an intense stare coming from somewhere, but I couldn't quite manage to figure out why I felt that way. I had a constant urge to turn around and look at what was behind me. At that exact moment, I remembered having the same type of feeling just a couple of weeks earlier. All I could say about it was that it was very odd. Was someone observing me? I questioned myself.
I sluggishly got ready for work, and I kept thinking about my boss’s irritating voice.
“I asked you to do this for me, Maeve!” he would holler at me, constantly. I tried to ignore it, but it kept coming back into my mind. I hated people who felt the need to boss others around, but unfortunately, that was what I had signed up for when I accepted this position.

“Would you like the receipt?” As I attempted to reach into my purse to grab my wallet, my heart skipped a beat. I noticed that my handbag was missing, my eyes widened, and I started to panic on the spot. “I could have sworn I had my purse with me,” I told the cashier hysterically. “You’ll have to cancel the order.” “That’s another order gone to waste!” the grumpy cashier grumbled under her breath. After the incident at the café, I hurriedly walked to work. My tardiness did not sit well with my boss. So, to avoid any further reprisal, I started working immediately. As the hours went by, I felt an intense glare coming from somewhere. I swiftly got up and out of my chair, without making any noise, to check outside my window. “Aaaaahhhh!” I shrieked at the top of my lungs. “What’s wrong, Maeve?” my colleague inquired worriedly. “N-n-nothing... I thought someone, or something, was staring at me. I-I yelled at my own reflection in the window.” My co-worker chuckled at me and walked back to her office. About an hour later, I heard footsteps behind me. I wanted to turn around and look at what it was, but I told myself I wouldn’t. And I
