Personal Narrative: Hillsborough High School Athletic Team

Improved Essays
Never Give Up On Your Goal The final school bell rang. I just finished gym class and walked into the locker room to put on my Hillsborough High School soccer jersey. This was just one game out of many in my freshman season. I expected to win as our record proved that we were a muscular and athletic team.
I am ready for the game with my soccer bag packed with my Gatorade and training gear. My other teammates begin to fill in the locker room preparing for the game too. I checked the team job list to see if I had to get any supplies ready before we went out to the field. I searched the list and saw that my name was not on it. I go to walk outside and wait for the rest of the team to be ready. As I am walking out of the locker room, I pass by

I was the last player running onto the field only shortly after my team did. Coach Spencer called me over to tell me that he had a fantastic feeling about this game for me. I sprinted back onto the field into my position. I jumped up and down to try and get warm before the whistle blew. Montgomery was starting with the ball. The field was so quiet, as I even heard the wind blow.
That is when the whistle blew and the game began! The game started off quickly with Montgomery kicking off the ball and playing it right back to their defense. We immediately put pressure on the defenders by sending our attacking players to go and try and win the ball. They usually chained a couple of passes together before we were able to intercept the ball. Then we chained passes together and started going on a hard offensive. We took several shots; some of which were close to going in. The time was dwindling down in the first half. The ball went out of bounds

He took us into the shade near our team bench and told us,”You guys are playing great, we just need to put the ball in the net and try to hold the lead.” We all agreed, but easier said than done. We went back to the bench to get our drinks and prepare to start the next half.
The referee blew the whistle as both teams ran back out onto the field. I went back onto the field to start the second half. We started with the ball this time. Once the referee blew his whistle we were off! We wanted to win the game badly and expected Montgomery to not stand a chance against us. We came off strong in the beginning. We held the ball and got it up to our forward, Mitchel. Within five minutes of the half, we were able to score. We all ran over to Mitchel and celebrated. I went back in my position and waited for the other team to reset the ball. I yelled, “Keep up the work, we need to score another!”
Once they started with the ball, they too began to work even harder. Montgomery was able to get many more shots off on us, although our keeper, Robbie, was able to save them. There was around ten minutes left when Rory was able to receive the ball from the midfield and beat our defense. He took a magnificent shot that went into the bottom right corner of the net. Montgomery scored, and the game was now tied

I could feel the cold, crisp air seeping through my jersey as I watched our struggling defense. Who were jaded and bittered, letting up more than 28 points this game. As the sun shined against the green turf, it left heat, fumes coming off the CBC football field. A low humming noise creeped onto the field as the cars flew by on Highway forty. The students walked around the track after the Red Devil’s coach called a timeout midway thru the second half of the game. As one of the Cadets cruised down the field with his hair flying back behind his head the roar of the crowd sounded like a tornado siren. His fellow teammate screamed, “Here, here” while swinging his right arm above his head because he wanted the ball possibly to place a shot on target, or to look for an open pass to penetrate the defensive line of the Red Devils.…
