My heart began to beat rapidly as the familiar sound of the ringing cell phone hummed into my ear. The well-known voice of my high school guidance counselor answered, “Sue Walker, JP Knapp guidance counselor, how may I help you?” After I gathered my racing thoughts into words, I managed to respond, “Hi Mrs. Walker, this is Katelynn. I heard from another student that acceptance decisions from the North Carolina Governors School were emailed to counselors this morning.” She confirmed to me that decisions were available, but were only to be delivered in person.
