What was the situation? I had transferred from an elementary school within my district where I knew everyone and had respectable working relationships with both teachers and other staff members to another elementary school with a new role in leadership. My job was called, CRT, or Curriculum Resource Teacher. Many of the grade groups had worked together for many years and did not associate with other staff members. The administration had become complacent and allowed the teachers to do limited necessary things to keep them from causing problems in the school. I would go home and discuss the similarities of my new job and not fitting in with any groups at the school and my daughters experience as a freshman in high school. After working for over 30 years in various occupations, I was having flashback memories of my high school years, 1980-1984! I loved the aspect of my new job and the challenges that I would face, but did not think I would be bullied into not complying with my duties.

I did not personally confront them during the situation, but instead informed my administration and district administration after reviewing the “Code of Ethics State Board of Education Rule 6B-1.006, FAC. (5) Obligation to the profession of education requires that the individual (d) Shall not engage in harassment or discriminatory conduct with unreasonably interferes with an individual’s performance of professional or work responsibilities or with the orderly processes of education or which creates a hostile, intimidating, abusive, offensive, or oppressive environment; and further, shall make reasonable effort to assure that each individual is protected from such harassment or discrimination.”
