I was at Kings Pointe at the water park with my family. The one thing that I was most excited about was the high dive. My brother went first off the high dive because I wanted to see how he went off it and what he thought about it. Splash! Goes my brother into the water. As I watched him run and jump off the high dive. “Hey, want to go off the high dive after me it’s really fun.” Asked Carson “Sure it looked really fun was it?” I said. “Yah it was I was really nervous when I got up there but I still wanted to go off it so I just ran and jumped so I wouldn’t be as scared and it was really fun.” Said Carson Then, I got in line and waited because there where all ready people in line when I got in line. So, I waited. When it was my turn I

In the trove of memories that I have from the visits to Florida, one in particular stands out. One day when we visited in June we went to Blue Springs park. It had crystal clear water so you were able to see 40ft to the bottom. After swimming in spring water for a while we rented canoes and went down the river it was connected to. We had enough fun after a couple hours and we were about to finish the day off by jumping off a 5ft ledge into the 40ft deep water.…

What was your favorite overall activity? Why? My favorite activity was the sky coaster, even though I didn’t go all the way to the top, because I am scared of heights so it helped me with my fears and because it was so much fun when I got to drop and then swing from the cords that were holding me up. 2.…

This past summer, I underwent many swim tests and was finally offered a lifeguarding position at a local town beach and waterpark. I eagerly accepted the offer and was excited to start. When I arrived on my first day, I was informed that there had not been a save in our shallow water facility for the past nine years. But, that nine year save streak ended this summer. A coworker noticed that a man had went underwater and quickly blew a whistle to inform everyone at our facility that there was an emergency.…

A few seconds later, anti-personnel bombs exploded. The watchman guarding the entrance to the war tent came in and reported that there were flares, far away to the east. When I was a child my uncle was a second father to me. I used to be on a year round swim team and although he lived in the bay area he would be at almost every meet. He would also introduce me to new sports and activities which I could never forget. As I turned eleven years old he completely disappeared from my life for what seemed like no reason. A year later my parents began receiving letters from him explaining how much he hated them and how he wished the worst for me and my sisters.…

When I was in sixth grade, a family friend had died from a heart stroke, it is when the flow of oxygen in one part of the heart is stopped. This inspired me to raise money for research for coronary heart disease, a disease that claims the lives of more Americans than any other disease. American Heart Association had an event at our school called Jump Rope For Heart. This event had an option for us to fund raise for the research of coronary heart disease through the team of Buzz Aldrin Elementary. I had choose to fund raise, but after I collected money with the team, I took a step further and created a personal fundraising page online through American Heart Association.…

“If you don’t know, go!” I remember my instructors screaming this phrase at me and my fellow trainees over and over during my first lifeguard training, cementing those words into our memory. It was the same phrase going through my head as my body hit the water of the eight-foot deep wave pool I had been staring at for hours that day. My target was a young girl, only about twelve years old. She was floating on her back, only supported by a life-jacket resting under her head instead of on her body where it should have been.…

It was time. It was finally time to go on the zipline course over the animal park. I was very excited, but still a little nervous. We all got on a truck to bring us to the first tower, we drove through the park and saw all the lovely animals roaming and minding their own business. When we got to the tower we had to climb a tower soaring 75 feet up in the air and after we finally reached the top, we secured our harnesses and tightened our helmets and it was time to start.…

As I stood on the board, I imagined myself soaring through the air, picturing every move I made until sliding into the water as perfectly as I could manage. I competed as a Springboard Diver for six years of my life. Diving helped me realize and strengthen core characteristics about myself that I may never have recognized without participating in this amazing sport. Even though I am no longer a Springboard Diver that does not mean it still does not influence aspects of my every day life. Diving is unique in how it is more mentally taxing than it is physically.…

My first memory is swimming in the pool at Northwestern University with my dad. I had little water wings on; I am probably younger than one and a half years old. My dad played with me in the water. The water flowed over me as I floated and drifted with the small waves of the pool. The pure joy that came from being in the water is a feeling that I am glad has stayed with me throughout the years.…
