Personal Narrative: Hey City Boy

Improved Essays
I plugged my phone into my wireless speaker and turned the volume up, since the horses are out in the field i don’t have to worry about scaring them. A song I didn’t know came on but it had a good beat to I started to dance around doing my own improv. I had taken some dance classes back in boston.
“Hey City Boy” I full swing in the middle og my dance when a gruff voice startled me and made me drop the hay the voice laughed “Damn anything’ll scare a city boy won’t it,” he guffawed, he was shirtless as usual wearing wrangler jeans and a camouflage hat that said “mossy oak” on it and his tattered brown leather boots, dumb redneck. My face flushed and I turned off my speaker. Praying he wouldn't say anything. I can take most of what he says but

I swear nothing can shake this buffoon.
“If you wanna show up at a southern party dressed the way you dress I aint gon stop you but I promise you you’ll regret it. There’s gon be lots of people you’ll be goin to school with there, and you don’t wanna totally scream sissy” He said smugly. I groaned.
“How about I kick your ass and that’ll show everyone how much of a ‘sissy’ I am” He outright laughed at that. I rolled my eyes.
“You can sure try if you want too but i’ll have you pinned in seconds” He widened his stance and raised an eyebrow “Wanna dance, City Boy?
“Alright, God you’re so annoying. Fine, i’ll go to your hick party and i'll let you pick out my stupid clothes, now leave me alone before you give me a brain aneurysm”
“Sounds good, Twinkle Toes” I spun around but he was already jogging away to his truck.
“Stupid rednecks” I grumbled to myself as I finish my chores. I go back inside with sweat dripping off my nose. Brae, Brin and Bri were all in the kitchen making lunch.
“So, you’re going to a party tonight huh?” Brae said sliding me a glass of water. I took a gulp before answering

I threw the foil packages onto my bed before grabbing pajamas knowing i'll be changing anyway before I jumped into the shower. My family is not normal. I scrubbed every inch of my body, vaguely away of the effort I was putting into this for a boy that annoys the shit out of me. I got out and dried myself off and got dressed without looking in the mirror. I blow dried my hair and fixed it to where it looked nice. When I walked out of the bathroom I noticed it was almost 6: 45. I rolled my eyes at having to put up with Theodore for the next few hours. As I waited I found myself growing anxious. I rubbed my hands popping my fingers. I could go downstairs and wait but then i’d probably kill Brinley. When I heard the doorbell ring my heart lept into over drive. I convinced myself that I was just nervous about meeting new people.
“Upstairs, down the hall and the second door on your left” I hear Braelynn say. Thank God it wasn't Brinley that answered the door. I heard a knock at my door then it opened. When he opened it my breath caught. He was wearing a light green long sleeve button down shirt that was tucked into the tightest pair of wrangler jeans. He was also wearing a newer looking pair of boots and a midnight black cowboy hat instead of his usual camo one. I put my ‘tough guy’ face on and pretended I didn't notice

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a very different book. This is because it is written from an “outsider’s” perspective. However, we didn’t get to see much of the Soc’s point of view. Cherry says in the book that life for an “insider” isn’t as great as it looks to the Greasers. After finding out his now-ex girlfriend has been unfaithful, he portrays diligence to harass her by narrating his plan of action for revenge in the lyrics, “I’m gonna aim my headlights into your bedroom windows, throw empty beer cans at both of your shadows”. Thus, implying the desensitization of society into perceiving violent portrayals in breakups are of the norm. The binary in this song is that due to his girlfriend cheating he is obligated to act violently to shame the woman, to which he justifies his actions in the lyrics, “You know you broke the wrong heart, baby, you drove me redneck crazy.” His motives are excused supposedly due to his broken heart and plays ‘victim’, where as the real victim is left oppressed. Statistically, women are much more likely to be the target of stalking threats (ARS, 2010), this is reinforced by the ominous lyric, “I’m the kind of guy that shows up at your house at 3a.m.”…
