Anna Maria Island is a special place to visit in Florida. This beautiful barrier island is located in Manatee County on Florida's west coast in the Gulf of Mexico. I've been there three times to stay at my Papa and Grandma's condo on family vacations, and I am fond of it there! When we visit, we see beautiful palm trees and nature, and we go to many wonderful places on the island. One place I really love is Fire and Stone Pizza!…
At one point in most everyone's life they dream of making a difference in their community. They want to make it a better place. This is one of many dreams that I wish to accomplish. My plan is to use this scholarship to help set a better example for the younger generation in my tribal community. My hope is that by attending college and bettering myself, then the youth within the tribe will follow my lead and decide to do the same; whether it be going to college one day or to just be a better person in general.…
As I peered down the bluff, I saw the magnificent black-and-white beasts breach the water of the Salish Sea. The L-pod resident orcas were gliding past Henry Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. This sight reminded me why I was in the San Juans in the first place: to appreciate nature and do my part to protect it. I finally got to experience these natural beauties that I had heard oh-so-much about from the locals. The sea breeze flowed onto my face, and I appreciated the wonder of it all.…
We went to Kings Dominion yesterday and it was really fun. I’m scared of height, so I never really ride anything, but yesterday my friends force me on the Domination ride, it was one of those big roller coasters. I keep on telling them I can’t ride it and I’m really scared, but everybody just ignores me while they dragged by my arms and the other pushes me from behind to get on. Once we got down, they asked how was it…
Everyone is given a name at birth that is unique and special to each individual. This title travels with them wherever they may go and whatever they may do. Malia Hi’ilani Mae Kema was the verbal gift given to me the day I was born. It is a name that I hold dear to my heart because it carries the love of my ancestors.…
I am awoken by loud voices and stomping above me. I sprint up to the top deck trying to discover what all the commotion is about. When I get there people are dancing, singing, and crying. I am confused before I see it. A beautiful green statue of hope.…
The waves softly crashed along the seashore and drew themselves nearer and nearer as if they were signaling for me to join them and play their games. Grinning to myself I decided that I would join in their fun. I took a giant deep breath and leaped into the glossy salted water. The water was cool and refreshing; I felt it slip through my hair making it sway in the water. I swam deeper and deeper into the turquoise ocean.…
Hawaii, the home of white sand beaches, pro surfing, hula dances, and warm weather. If I could move to any region within the United States, I would move to Hawaii with no hesitation. Hawaii contains a prestigious hospital and the opportunity to become a surfer. Both of which of which I have always dreamed of being a part in. Nothing would make me happier than becoming an orthopedic surgeon operating out of a Hawaiian hospital working on shark attack victims and other unlucky victims who need orthopedic repair, then go straight to the beach to surf and relax for the remainder of the day.…
There is a place where many people go to for a wonderful vacation, it’s called Tome Island. It is fifty miles north of Hawaii, I don’t just visit, I live here. This isn’t a regular island, the grass was more green than a green marker or paint brush, beautiful crystal blue waters and bright white sand. But that's not the kicker, the kicker is that Is wasn’t just formed, it was made. Beautiful creatures built it, they are like giant white birds who can blow massive winds and fly up to 190mph, we call them Tomasians.…
Being in Hawaii on the nice hot beach. With the hot air blowing in my face, and looking at the crystal clear water. With the smell of suntan lotion everywhere. I take out my white Iphone 6 to check the time it 4:00pm. I grab my bag wrap up my blanket and go straight to swimming with the dolphins.…
I am a Native American. No. I am not Cherokee. Apache? Nope.…
I expected Hawaii to be tropical paradise, but it’s not. My shack is very tiny and there are at least 1 million unknown creatures. I work 10 hour days, 6 days a week. The plantations are hot, dry, I have to cover up, and the Luna (overseer) is very disrespectful to me. My expectations were beyond not met because of the housing, unfair treatment, and horrible FOOD!…
Last summer of 2017, I took an amazing seven day long trip to Hawaii with my brother, parents, and my grandparents. We had so much fun at the resort we stayed at called the Grand Wailea, there at the resort we checked into our amazing villa that is unforgettable and luxurious with the amazing view and pools. Also we went to the relaxing beaches next to the contraption of pools where we spent most of our time during the day. Finally, we went to an astonishing tourist attraction, the twin falls, where we ate fresh pineapple, swam in the water, and hiked to get there. First, we arrived in the vallie the connected to an extensive hallway that was covered by chandeliers and paintings on the walls.…
The Night That Changed My Life I raised my window shade to reveal a magnificent view from above. I observed the multi-lane highway occupied with several vehicles traveling in each direction and broad trees covered in snow, to the mysterious stagnant ocean scattered with icebergs. It was winter break in New England and my family and I were en route towards Miami, where an immense cruise ship, the Allure of the Seas, was waiting for us. I was ecstatic for the adventure my family…
As I am waiting to get back to Earth I think about all of the stuff that has happened. Will my bones be okay? Will I actually see Nana? I guess I don’t really know until I get to Earth. I then ponder about my parents.…
