Personal Narrative: Havre Middle School

Decent Essays
When I walked into Havre Middle School, I really didn’t want to be here. I wasn’t expecting to have seven different classes. I liked only having one big class a day. This is why, I don’t like school anymore. I grew a lot in the last three years of middle school. When I was in the fifth grade I didn’t play sports because I didn’t know I could, but now I do. I have changed a lot since the end of the fifth grade.
One way I’ve changed since the fifth grade, is that I used to love school, but now I hate it. First, I use to go outside after lunch. Now i can’t, but I get to play in the gym. I would rather be outside. Secondly, school got a lot harder. All the subjects got harder because I didn’t learn what I needed to in elementary school. Finally,

“Making a big life change is pretty scary. But, you know what’s even scarier?Regret.” This quote is from an anonymous person, but it relates because August made the decision to go to an ordinary public school for the first time and it was my first time going into public school. August and I had a choice whether or not he wanted to try public school and my choice was to attend public school or private school. I was leaving Franklin Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois for good. Sadness and anger enveloped me and I nearly had a fit right there on the spot. I would miss all of my teachers, my friends, and most of all, living in the city. On the car ride to our new house in Highland Park, I thought about Franklin.…

I want to write about the experiences that I encountered after attending Carl Junction schools, and the impact and difference it made on my life. People think all schools are the same, that it is school, there’s kids and there’s teachers, you go and sit for 8 hours and you get marked as ‘present’ regardless if you’re learning or not, and if you’re present and you don’t fail, then you go on to the next grade. But I realized something different, when things got switched up for me. I attended Carl Junction schools from 1st grade to the very end of 6th grade, and then I started Joplin in the 7th grade, not knowing anyone from this school, or really this area. When I started school at Joplin I was so nervous, I was nervous about the normal stuff, that no one would like me, I would sit by myself, or people would be mean to me.…

It was the beginning of high school, the start of a new chapter in my life; after coming into the school, the mall looked like the feeding of the five thousand. St. Thomas More has over a thousand students, and every single one was there on that first day, trying to find the way to their new classes just like me. Walking through the halls of St. Thomas More with the unfamiliar smell of the classrooms reminded me of what lies ahead. I thought it was going to be difficult, because I wouldn’t see anyone I know. Fortunately, some of my old friends from St. Pius were in my gym class, so I was glad that I would not be alone in gym class.…

Prior to middle school, I thought I was satisfied with my position. I had friends, got along with my teachers, excelled in sports, and got decent grades in my classes. Back then, I thought this well-roundedness I sought between these necessities would offer me self-satisfaction. Little did I know, however, that I was going to confront this well-rounded nature of mine during my first awards ceremony in middle school. Among the most intelligent, artistic or athletic of the students present there, I was the one of the few who simply struggled to stand out.…

In the seventh grade, I faced a large transition in life. The previous year I had experienced middle school for the first time, but I would make that entrance again. I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…

Do you ever see the way you change and it all seems like it is okay until it isn’t? In the middle of my middle school year of 8th grade, I had met some new friends and started hanging out with them. At lunch we were all just laughing and having a good time and everything in life was going great. We all had been eating our food and talking about sports and trucks and what plans we had coming up that evening. As lunch came to and end we all headed to our classes like a normal everyday routine.…

Elementary School can be a tough and weird time for any new Kindergarten student, due to the fresh new environment reminiscent to nothing you have every seen before, like full white classrooms filled to the brim with young, smelly, and weird kids you have never seen before, teachers who remind you of weird relatives or neighbors, and the new feeling of uneasiness that comes over your petite little body as you timidly sit down in a prison like asylum in which you are expected to learn day in and day out. Minus the occasional nap time, recess, and hanging out with all your new pals, school was just not as fun as being at home doing whatever you pleased. And do not get me wrong I personally loved school back then because it was a chance for me…

Throughout my 13 years of school, and now in college, you learn who you truly become, who your friends are, and especially realize what you’ve been taught eventually pays off. When we were kids, we always thought about who was the most popular, or who had the coolest backpacks. Little did I know learning to respect others, pay attention in class, and even raising your hand when you had a question would show that it would come in handy for the future. Surely when we were kids, did we each think it was bologna. It has shaped our future and ourselves as an individual.…
