As we approach Thanksgiving Day and our holiday season, my heart and mind have been reflecting on my many blessings and things I am most grateful. Primarily among them is my home and work families and our wonderful employees. Thank you for the work you do to support the great work of the County of Los Angeles. Without your hard work, commitment, creativity, and customer service, we would not be the great high performing department we are! I wish you a Thanksgiving filled with love, joy, and bright moments. Enjoy your holiday- Happy Thanksgiving

Emotions including desolation, grief and loneliness were experienced on Memorial Day, 2015. Grief spread throughout my house after the news that my Gramma passed away had reached it. My Mother, Father, two sisters, Dick, who was my Gramma’s partner for 18 years, and many family members all had to cope with this feeling of sadness. When my Mom got the horrible news, I was the first to know. I don’t know if you will believe me, but the only reason I was awake was because of a bad gut feeling.…

Happy Thanksgiving from the PCE Team! It is hard to believe we are this far into harvest and only a few weeks away from a really good meal with friends and family! It is also, most of all, taking an added account of all we are thankful for. Our cooperative would not be great without the very patrons we serve. We have many multigenerational and longstanding relationships with many families from our farmer growers, residential propane users, feed store patrons.…

I wanted to thank you all for your continued hard work. I wanted to thank you all for your commitment to what we are doing and if we can continue to be in "the swing," we are only going to get stronger as time grows on. I love the concept of Work Harder Than You Did Last Week because to me, it exemplifies what I love about this team. We are never satisfied with settling on just existing, we have a team that consistently strives to get better each and every week and I promise you, it will help us fulfill our purpose of urgently impacting as many souls as possible by creating avenues that add value to their…

When I was in the 10th grade, my high school had begun to do something called Spirit Week. Now, if you do not know what spirit week is this is when you have a different activity for each day of the week, for example on Monday it may be cartoon day and you get to dress as your favorite character. Well, on this day it was “Throwback Thursday” and my friends and I decided that we were going to dress up as TLC. So, that day we talked about everything that we had planned to wear and we decide that we wanted to wear bandanas.…

College Essay Growing up in New Haven, Connecticut there weren’t big mansions, people with expensive cars, nor any sign of wealth .It ’s a small city filled with homeless people, violence and poor neighborhoods that made me into the person I am today. In a tiny, run-down bar on the sketchy side of town, I sit at a booth with a hardened, grizzled war veteran who was drowning his sorrows with cheap liquor out of amber-tinted shot glass. Consequently,—because of Veteran's Day—in honour of those who served, I was asked to interview Colonel William Cohen McAdams—who served in the army, airforce, and the navy SEALs—for an article in the university paper. He was a decent-looking fellow—for someone who was missing an eye. Ironically enough, he catches more with one eye than anyone else does with two. He lost it to a shrapnel grenade during his fifth and final tour of duty—I’d later learn.…

Hey Morg, I just wanted to let you know that even though we don't talk as much as we used to that I still consider you one of my best friends. I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip to Sweden and I look forward to hearing more stories in the weeks to come. Additionally, I'm elated and I'm counting down the days until I visit Kansas for Thanksgiving break. I think once I visit things will pick-up back to normal. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer vacation.…

I miss them already. Despite the freezing cold snow and the nipping air, we had a lovely Christmas break. As I inspect my child, now grown with children of her own, holding tickets back to their home, longing envelopes me. Hoards of people push past, unaware of my pain, on their own schedules and heading toward different trains, talking and texting on their cell phones. My family boards, time as if in slow-motion, and waves goodbye until I see them again.…

My greatest accomplishment in life is to attend a catholic school. I view this as an accomplishment because of all the rewards that have come out of my school. I go to Gehlen Catholic which is a private school. I believe that having a private education is one of the greatest accomplishments that anyone can receive. Because of the small class sizes I was able to receive a more direct teacher to student education.…

Thanksgiving dinner in my family is a big deal all our family and friends gather around to celebrate. There is always plenty of food, drinks, music and laughter. My family is loud, crazy and not afraid to voice their opinions so there is always drama at every dinner or family event. I chose to write on this because I never payed attention to detail or interactions at these dinners like why the women cook? Or why it is important that we are all together.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

The anticipation for Thanksgiving break is over the top. The thought of home cooked meals, family, and no professors talking a student 's ear off for a week are heavenly. Of course all the classic thanksgiving things happen but there are also psychological things that go on. (Darn that psychology sneaking its way into everything, it obviously never goes on break.) Although psychology is used every minute of every day i 'm only going to talk about 5 concepts, persuasion, cognition, emotion, personality, and the self.…

As a child, having rules to follow wasn’t unheard of with my family. There was always a way to behavior with friends/family, at school, at home and out in the street. Often I found myself getting into trouble because I didn 't listen and also the fact that I always found some kind of way to slipping out of having to doing something that I knew I was supposed to do. But out of all the people in my family my mom was the strictest. When expectations set high, not meaning them meant my siblings and I typical had a week long cleaning punishments along with handing over all toys, games, and light up sneakers; about three times a week this happened to me.…
