Personal Narrative: Hamilton Falls

Improved Essays
Water gushes from the rocks dangling from high above. The exquisite sight is dazzling from any perspective. Jamaica State Park, Hamilton Falls is the most marvelous natural area I have visited. Swimming here is very hazardous and not recommended but it is an adventure that some people cannot resist. Memories that are in crushed in my brain now and forever. The crystal clear water dances as the sunlight bounces off the surface. The sound of the trickling water sooths the soul and relaxes you into a hypnotic state of mind. The Vermont state bird, Hermit Thrush sings it’s intricate songs as I sit cross-legged on the highest point of the falls. Feeling like a queen. I let my mind slip into oblivion. The wind tasseling my lushes’ locks and quietly whispers in my ear. I take a deep breath inhaling the crisp air. I never wanted the sensation to come to a halting stop. Strong currents and slippery rocks. Despite the 125-foot scenic waterfall there are some …show more content…
We bailed out the motorized vehicle with extreme excitement. My best friend Mark, my stepdad Tony, my mother Marie and I ventured through the cascading trail. After many strides we had finally made it. The sight we have all been waiting for was now peering us in the eyes. Without any hesitation I rest upon the ground taking in the marvelous beauty, that was nature. Feeling the waterlogged fall leaves underneath me, drenching my blue jeans. There I sat gazing into the distance as Mark reaches for my hand to assist me upward. Pulling me close, wrapping his arm around me as he whispers in my ear “It is almost as beautiful as you.” There we stood, feeling like time had vanished. Enroot to the lowermost section. Moving one after another, holding hands to keep study. The real adventure was now under way. Coming to a halt we had finally reached the bottom. Snapping photographs for the mesmerizing beauty that we call nature. Capturing this amazing memory

On that day I only felt like looking around and staying on the ground for once. The trees were covered in green moss at the bottom. The trees towered over me and made a canopy of leaves with their branches. The further I walked into the forest the more enchanting it became. I had this urge to stay here and never come back, but i fought that urge for I knew what that would do to my family.…

The waterfall wasn’t as big as Yosemite Falls but watching the little droplets fall and the light hitting it at just the right angle, and watching all the different woodland species prance about, going along with their day, without a care in the world, made it look and feel like it was a paradise from a movie. We weren’t being disrupted by loud car horns because we were alone with ourselves, our thoughts, and the wilderness. The water rushing echoed in the distance and the pitter patter of the water flow pounds onto the rocks below. Located at the bottom was a serene pool which we would sometimes swim in. Every time there is a possibility for us going to Mount Shastina I am filled with joy and nostalgia longing to recreate more…

The neighborhood was noiseless, and the sky was pitch black, for there had been no moon on that summer morning in June. My mother and father started our car and waited for Sofia,my sister, sean ,my friend, and me to get inside. It was time to leave our dull suburban home in San Jose, and drive to the beloved National Park, Yosemite, to hike Half Dome. On the car ride there I had slept, but awoke right when we had gotten into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Looking outside of the window and noticing all of the evergreen trees was surreal for me, as I rolled down my window a strong smell of pine and fresh air poured into the car.…

As the powerful Colorado River churned beneath me, as it has for centuries, and the relentless sun peaked over the top of the North Rim, I could not help but feel astounded. I was in a timeless place: a place disconnected from the society I had left behind miles ago. Down here, in the lowest section of the Grand Canyon, it was just me, my friends, and the heat. Always the heat. We had started our journey, a run from the Grand Canyon’s North Rim to the South Rim, at 4 AM in a futile attempt to avoid the skyrocketing temperature and finish before the sun became the determining factor in the success of our venture.…

Being born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, I have been afforded the privilege of witnessing the Great Falls of Paterson my whole life. I have visited the Great Falls many times throughout my life. When I was young with my parents, whether it was for a day in the sun or for a festival. I grew up appreciating this magnificent work of nature, I also took a part in cleaning up the falls, both as a volunteer and as a member of the Paterson Youth Council and Urban Youth Corps. I have brought my family to the falls to help with the clean ups, from my sisters, to my cousins, to my youngest nephews, and those memories stick to me to this day.…

Outside, trees off in the distance have become shades of vibrant reds and yellows. The lingering gray sky above me casts a gloomy shadow. A turning point is something that changes either your character (who you are), how you live your life, or both. Downhill skiing has been a turning point for me in my life. To truly understand the joy of skiing, you must feel the connections to everything around you. From your body to the skis, from the skis to the snow and ice, from the icy snow to the ground, you must feel and connect through all of it. That is when you can finally understand the freedom gliding through and on the snow brings.…
