Personal Narrative: Halloween Night

Improved Essays
Halloween is like a horror movie, except with drunk teenagers instead of axe murders. It was about two years ago, when we were still living in Germany. It was a fairly peaceful Halloween night and the sun was about to set. My friends and I were walking around the village, what Germans call a town. After about half an hour of us walking around and talking, some acne filled, tall, muscular and older, German teenagers came up to us. By the loopiness and the gross, potent smell of alcohol in their breath we could tell that they had been drinking.
“Go away, you stupid kids” they said harshly in their heavy German accents.
We tried to decide if we wanted to keep walking around or listen to them and just leave. Us, being the stubborn kids that we

As we were running I could taste the saltiness of the sweat coming off my forehead. We quickly turned the corner and hid behind a tall rose bush and tried to figure out what we could do. With every second that passed by we could hear the loud thunder like march of teenage boys that obviously didn’t want to be messed with. However, we couldn't see them because at this point in time the sun had already set and that and it was foggy and a few of the street lights we out. Then we quickly we tried to think of how we could get away from them. Dylan found a rock on the ground and he threw it in their direction to scare them, but that didn't work, so, we hid for another half hour waiting, watching, and hoping that they weren't going to come beat us up.
They left after a while and we went to Dylan’s house and ate all the candy that we had picked up trick-or-treating. Michael and I ended up staying the night because it was around 11:30 when we got there.
We learned that night that if there is a sizeable group of drunk teenagers wanting you to leave and you’re not prepared for a fight then you should leave. The feeling of getting chased down by people that we didn’t even know and not knowing what to do is not a feeling that I want again. Next time, though, I will be ready to fight or we will just leave when they tell us

Since its release in 1978, John Carpenter’s film Halloween has become a staple in the horror genre. This film is regarded as highly influential, being dubbed “a cornerstone of the modern horror film” by one critic (Vishnevetsky). Though the film tells the story of Michael Myers, it is the female lead, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, who captures the attention of the audience. In this analysis, I will provide evidence that Curtis’ character, Laurie Strode, is an example of Carol Clover’s trope of the Final Girl. I will also discuss how this film relates to Laura Mulvey’s concept of the Male Gaze and furthermore, Sigmund Freud’s psychosexual stages of development theory.…

As I passed through downtown Atlanta, I couldn't help admire the home of the Braves, not just because it was an architectural wonder but because it brought back to mind that very first lesson when Professor Van Huevelen sparked my curiosity when he said we find that there are some things in this world that are repeatable. Repeatable. Repeatable. So a baseball pitcher, if he throws a ball with the same speed and in the same direction, spinning the ball the same, it'll end up going about the same place.…

Children are waiting for this day, they lie in wait month by month and plot what costumes they will wear on this day; they figure out who amongst their friends and family will gather the most candy; this day is called Halloween. Halloween is the one day in the whole year where people and children alike dress up in costumes and go door to door in order to accumulate candy, however, one would not think that Halloween was not always a child-friendly holiday but had a shadowy and foggy past. Halloween then and Halloween now are completely two different people. Halloween in the past was first a day that marked a new season, but soon became a time where terror resides in the hearts of the Celts. Halloween today, has taken a dark turn where sadists and commercialization have sucked the fun and the historical truth out of Halloween.…
