Personal Narrative: HEMA

Improved Essays
HEMA is the single thing that i want to do the most. I have spent hours searching for it on the internet and have found that there is not a club within an hour of Suwanee. I was devastated until i joined the fencing team while it is not much like HEMA, it will tide me over until i can leave suwanee and find one. HEMA stands for historical european martial arts, it is sword fighting of all types. Drastically different from the movies it is one of the most misunderstood and little practiced martial art. My dream to become a master emphasises education, need for encouragement, and use of my potential.
Potential is a trait based off a all a person's skills. The first time i got to fence the two people i fenced said i was very good for a beginner.

The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. The bland, brown and beige lobby became extraordinarily familiar as I waited two hours to be examined.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

When I think of Hy-Vee, I think of family. I think of helpful people, hard work, and fun. Hy-Vee has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From before I was born, it has been my family’s go-to grocery store--the epitome of convenience and dependability. So, it was natural for me to look for a job there when I turned 16.…

A few years ago, I have decided to go to my health professional and have my numbers checked. Although my numbers still fall in the "normal" range, they're still low for someone my age. If my memory serves me right, it was around 260 or so. I knew that something has to be done, my low testosterone level doesn't only affect my sexual life, but my life in general. I always feel tired, anxious, and unsatisfied of my body.…
