I was a receptionist at a hair salon working for my boyfriend’s mom. I was excited to finally start making money and feel more independent. It was pretty much a family business with my boyfriend’s mother, sister, and aunt being all cosmetologists there. I loved working with people I was close to because it made our relationship even stronger. I got to see the good and bad sides of my co-worker’s and was able to see how different our cultures were.
As I started my job, I thought I was already a people person that wasn’t shy when it came to strangers, but I guessed wrong. Being a receptionist, I have to talk on the phone, schedule and confirm appointments, and keep the customers comfortable. I was nervous because I didn’t know anyone that came to the shop and I didn’t like talking on the phone.
