Personal Narrative: Growing Up In High School

Great Essays
Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…” Sadly, the excuses came to an end. The dreadful clothes shopping came, and I could never attain pants long enough. My parents thought I was just too …show more content…

I am not saying I always wore scandalous outfits; I could just wear shorts without a care for principal getting on to me for my outfit. I was also able to go out in leggings or jeggings that were longer because they stretched and much comfortable than regular jeans. As I was in college, I started thinking about my kids. I hoped to marry someone tall, but did not want my children towering over everyone like I did. I also figured a many people had a hard time finding attire around the country and the world. She had the same quandary as I did, and we often vented on the difficulties of being tall. She had never thought of creating anything new to solve the problem. I talked to her about creating something new, and she was skeptical at first. Eventually she grew to the idea of being able to help others in the same

Being six feet tall has its perks, but it also comes with some stereotypes and assumptions that have followed me for my entire life. So to begin, I need to clarify what being tall does not mean to me. Height is not what defines me and the activities that I participate in. I am not a ballerina, basketball player, volleyball player, or model, all of which I have been presumed to be at some point in my life. The man in the grocery store who commented on my “long, dancer-like legs” does not know that I despise ballet.…

Or what if the person you are interviewing is tall? On a conscious level, I’m sure that all of us don’t think that we treat tall people any differently from short people. But there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that height–particularly in men–does trigger a certain set of very positive, unconscious associations. I polled about half of the companies on the Fortune 500 list–the largest corporations in the United States–asking each company questions about its CEO. The heads of big companies are, as I’m sure comes as no surprise to anyone, overwhelmingly white men, which undoubtedly reflects some kind of implicit bias.…

It is sadly apparent to those who travel this great country when they see short people on TV, in our schools, or in the baby gap where they take our children’s clothes for themselves when they should’ve grown out of those clothes 10 years ago. Being short is a growing threat to society due to the inability to reach the gas pedal or the top shelf. Our cars are being made to accommodate toddler sized adults, making it more difficult for tall people to find a vehicle. It is also easier for tiny people to be criminals because they’re less likely to be spotted from when robbing a kids payless. Short people have become cancerous to our society, and there is only one way to heal this epidemic, the addition of stilts to all people below the height…
