Personal Narrative: Growing Up In High School

Improved Essays
Growing up, I never liked going to school. I despised getting up at six in the morning just to make it to school on time. I would usually spend most of my time at school day dreaming or talking to my friends, and I never took it too seriously. In middle school I didn’t try my best. I did pass most of my classes, and got a few awards but that was mostly because I copied homework from my friends. In high school it was the same thing, I spent a lot of time copying homework before school and after school. Unfortunately, high school was different; you can’t just complete all the homework assignments and pass the class. My dad was always involved with my studies and he wasn’t too thrilled when he found out I was failing a lot of my classes. He would yell at me, take my phone away, and sometimes he wouldn’t let me go to sleep until all my homework was finished. He did everything he could, to try to get me to take school seriously, but I just wouldn’t. To try to get him off my case I would hide my report cards when they came in the mail. When he asked about them, I would just make up and excuse to why they didn’t come. He really trusted me, so he never questioned anything …show more content…
My family was against the idea because the doctors said he needed at least two months of recovery, but he said he was feeling useless lying around all day. I asked him why he wouldn’t rest at least another week to make a better recovery and what he said next is the reason why I take school seriously now and it’s why I try my best. He said “son, I am not going back to work because I want too, but because someone needs to provide for the family, and I need to start saving up money to be able to pay your college

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…
