Personal Narrative: Growing Up In High School

Improved Essays
Growing up, I was always the shy kid. I never spoke up in class, and if I ever got called on by a teacher my heart would just about stop beating and my whole body would begin to shake. When I did speak, my voice was so quiet you could barely decipher a word of what I was saying. I hated all kinds of attention, good or bad. Even when I got invited to classmate’s birthday parties in elementary school, the effort that had to be taken to bring myself to knock on the door was almost insurmountable. I would plead with my mom to stay with me, and she usually would- to the discomfort of my fellow peers. The whole time I was just wishing I was at home by myself, reading my cheesy middle-grade-girly books or playing with my latest Littlest Pet Shop toys either by myself or with my big sister. …show more content…
Even now, I prefer staying at home by myself and reading than actually going out and putting forth the effort to try to be social. Life is just how it should be- simple. Hanging out in big social situations doesn’t come naturally for me.The idea of leaving the comfort and the peace of my own home to go into a world full of small talk and insignificant activities just makes the introvert inside of me

When I was younger, I struggled to support any friendships for an extended period of time. Before I moved to GCMS School district, I had previously attended three separate schools for the same few reasons. My parents could not afford to live where we did, one or both lost their job, or the environment was not suitable for our family. Moving so often made it difficult to keep in contact with old friends, and even more difficult to make new ones. As I was shy and introverted, it was an intimidating and terrifying situation.…

Throughout my childhood, adults frequently questioned me on whether or not I fit the stereotype of the only child. I have been asked if I was spoiled and bossy more times than I can count. In a way, I feel that I did fit this stereotype as a child, but I also feel at one time or another every child believes the world revolves around them. My family has described my younger self as being very defiant and strong-willed. I regularly did not listen to any of the tasks authority figures asked me to do, and instead I would stare at them and continue to do whatever I wanted.…
