Personal Narrative: Growing Up In A Small Community

Originally from Kenya, a country located in the eastern part of Africa; I grew up in a small community called Kitale. Kitale was known to carry people of about 40 tribes and refugees from Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan and other countries that has gone through war, crisis and despair. As the result of this, I was exposed to many different cultures and hatred between individuals. Growing up in a diverse community that has been affected physically and mentally by war; driven off its main course, has helped me grow as a person.
Personally, I have experienced both war and famine, my community has taught me to always be kind and caring towards the less fortunate individuals. On December 2007, tribal war broke out after the election observers claimed

Even though war brings out the best and the worst in people, the goodness always overshadows the worst. In “The Diary of Anne Frank” Anne talks about the goodness in people. She mentions the different “resistance groups, such as Free Netherlands”, who “forge identity cards” and provided “financial support to those in hiding” (Anne Frank). Anne talks about the different groups that helped the Jews in hiding, she expands on it by mentioning the family that was helping her family. “The best example of this is our own helpers, who have managed to pull us through so far and will hopefully bring us safely to shore” (Anne Frank). Anne’s diary shows that even in crisis there are people with good heart who are always willing to help. Some people always risk their life to help save …show more content…
Currently, I am involved in two different school groups; AGILE and National Honor Society. These groups focus on volunteering and helping the community. AGILE is a group designed for African girls who have a hard time transitioning from the African culture to the American culture. From AGILE, I got to learn how to empower myself as a girl of African origins. I also learned not only how to help myself, but to help others who have been in the same situation as me. AGILE was the first group that created a sense of community to me. Furthermore, AGILE has also provided me chances to be involved in the community. In 2014, I got the chance to be involved in a campaign; the “Bring Back Our Girls” campaign. I decided to join the campaign because I believe whatever affects an individual it affects everybody. The logic of the campaign was to spread awareness about the kidnappings of 200 girls in Nigeria. During the campaign, different organizations of girls around Minnesota met at the state capitol. From attending this campaign, I got to learn, when individuals come together they are powerful enough to defeat anything. Soon after, another incident struck Africa; the Ebola crisis. While most of the people did not have any power to help, I was fortune enough to help pack nonperishable food and sanitation substances to be shipped to

Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…

Me and my dad however always fought. I have a few good memories with him (he loved teaching me how to make home made biscuits.) which I always enjoyed on those rare occasions he was in a good mood. But, 90% of the time we were fighting.…

I was 13 years old, just starting off high school, when I realized what this dark cloud that’s been floating over me for the past couple of months really is. It wouldn’t be until more than a year later until I seek out professional help. It started off innocently enough as just a feeling of constant emptiness at the pit of my stomach. It slowly turned into randoms bouts of extreme rage, where I’d take out my anger physically, not just on the walls and mirrors of my childhood home and not just on my family, but on myself. I couldn’t understand why I felt this way, why I wasn’t “normal”.…

How does society as shown in Anne Frank: the Diary of a Young Girl show goodness? During the events of the diary, society as a whole not only showed evil, but also good. First of all, one such example of the kindness of society is found in this quote from Anne’s journal, on the helpers that aid the 8 people of the Annexe, “They all come upstairs every day, talk to the men about business and politics, to the women about food and wartime difficulties, and about newspapers and books with the children. They put on the brightest possible faces, bring flowers and presents for birthdays and bank holidays, are always ready to help and do all they can.…

My house is situated with a swine building on one side and corn and soybean fields on the other, with the crop type depending on the year. The nearest town holds little options for dining or entertainment. The establishment that resembles a restaurant is just a pizza joint and in order to see a movie at a theater a thirty minute drive is required.…
