Personal Narrative: Growing Up As A Kid

Improved Essays
Most of the time growing up as a kid I spent it with my oldest brothers. My favorite places I would love to be at as a kid was the alley. I can say that place made up my childhood. The place I enjoyed being at most of the day. It will always help me clear my mind. As a kid I didn’t always feel upset, but whenever I had a problem I would always go there to relieve some steam. Not to forget that’s where I met my best friend and my first girlfriend Most people assume when they hear the word alley is garbage and dangerous bacteria’s. Not for me though. The alley was the place where all the kids on the block would meet up to play soccer. We would get garbage cans and used them as goalie post. That would be an everyday thing in the summer. Every

Growing up I was the second child, my sister and I was seven years apart. My childhood days consisted of me sitting in my room playing with my toys. I only played with other children, if my cousins came over. I was very different; I was a tall boy with short hair. I didn’t like the skin I was in too much, because I always got picked on in school.…

GROWING UP Growing up, I didn’t have many luxuries, if any. The best thing I had was being a 5 minute walk away from a convenience store. The house I grew up in was infested with cockroaches and was falling apart within the walls. The dining room was so small, some of us had to eat on the floor. We only had three bedrooms, so my three younger siblings had to sleep in the living room.…

Buildings were abandoned almost daily, and as a result, empty lots sprawled over the city like weeds in gardens. Dark clouds had permanent residents in the sky, no matter the season. News of violent deaths were commonplace, and every time one was announced, you only hoped and prayed it wasn’t someone you knew. For almost half of my life, that environment was an aspect of my very being.…

Growing up is tough. Every day people go through life with careers that they may not enjoy. Throughout the past few weeks I got the opportunity to interview two people about their jobs, one being a young adult who just started working, while the other was approaching her mid-life with an established career. The advice from both of these individuals was both eye opening and helpful. The age of the interviewee definitely influenced the responses I received.…

Home, college town, and memories made are all things I could say to remind myself of the house I used to live in on Perry Street. Here memories were made and things about myself were learned. I used to never be familiar with the town of Albion until I started my time of living here for so long. When living on Perry Street the town seemed distant and massive to me, little Corey didn’t know how the world worked or how my life would continue after having so many experiences here and finally leaving. Since then driving down the street brings back memories of friendship, exploring, and developing myself to who I am now today.…

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

The alleys were eerie in the late November nights, barely lit by a single streetlight that only seemed to light up a single 6ft space. Now, there were no street lights at all, and barely anything to call an alleyway. Buildings were burnt, whole sides taken out, and the buildings gutted, leaving nothing but rusted metal and scrap pieces of paper. Boots pattered along the abandoned sidewalk with stern purpose. From their shoes to their heads they were covered with clothing, keeping the harsh winds from blowing handfuls of dust into their eyes.…

Any ditch, pothole, crack, is filled with trash. On the sides of the street there is people sitting outside of their dilapidated houses and shops, there’s children running around half clothed, dogs and chickens scavenging for any food they can, goats laying on graves, vendors selling trinkets they’ve made and drinks like Coke and Toro. There were people making food like grilled goat, and plantains. I could smell the intoxicating scent of beans and rice cooking in big, black kettles over a hot open. Finally, we arrived at the orphanage and were greeted by dozens of children, all smiling and ready to play.…

The Truth of Growing Up As a child all I wanted to do is just grow up and be an adult. As I grew older and taken on more responsibilities, I realized that growing up is not all that exciting and is actually difficult. In the final year of high school when college is the big stress, all the teachers want is to prepare us for the long papers, difficult tests and more stress. In the back of mind I’m thinking, wow this is going to be stressful, I don’t want to go to college anymore. Well my wish came true…

Tom thought to himself, “I wonder where the end of the alley is and where it might lead him?” Once he got home he told his wife about what he had seen, of course she did not believe him. The next day Tim went to the store and on his way back home he stopped and stared and the alley. After staring at the alley for a little while he decided he would go down it.…

Growing up, I lived in quite a few places as a result of my parents’ divorce. The neighborhood I lived most of my life, and still live in, is in New Market, Maryland. I live with my father on a tranquil golf course surrounded by large evergreens, close to a large lake known as Lake Linganore. I have always loved living here, especially when the wind would pick up and breeze through the trees and the crisp blades of the manicured grass. My favorite activity is to walk with my dog along the golfing path, and observe the scenery of the landscape with the forested mountains along the horizon.…
