Personal Narrative: God On The Move

7eventh Time Down sings the song, God is on the Move. The words of the refrain, “God is on the move, on the move, Hallelujah. God is on the move, in many mighty ways” accurately reflects my life. God is definitely on the move and has been preparing me for this journey in the MOL program. Thinking about events in my life that contributed to my growth as a leader, several events come to mind. The first has to do with my calling into full-time ministry. Growing up I always planned to be a teacher and many of my experiences involved teaching; Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, swimming lessons. It never occurred to me that God had a different plan in mind for my life.

I could not fathom why God would want me to serve his church and his people when there were obviously more qualified people he could choose. This was definitely a stumbling block for me early in my ministry. I doubted my abilities and calling and therefore, didn’t totally surrender my life or calling to God. Thankfully, we have a God that, in spite of my weaknesses, used me to further his kingdom and reach people that don’t yet know Him. Those experiences and interactions helped to confirm my calling in full-time …show more content…
At my most vulnerable, I was having to fill the role of teacher and leader, teaching people how to walk with others through a difficult situation. I learned how important it is to be authentic. I had to let them be part of the grieving and healing process, showing weakness, strength, and reliance on God. My prayer is that God used this journey as an example for others, that they would see our source of strength and hope, that life could again be filled with joy, and most importantly that they would see Jesus through

“Our enemies have made the mistake that America’s enemies always make. They saw liberty and thought they saw weakness. And now, they see defeat.” George W. “One of the secrets of life is making stepping stones out of stumbling blocks.” –Jack Penn As my thoughts raced and mocked every ounce of confidence that I could have possibly possessed, I impatiently prepared for what was about to come. It was finally my time to be in the limelight—my time to share my God-given talents. Foreman. Session1.Journal When I was working as an administrative assistant in a busy office in Walnut Creek, California, I was offered a promotion to be the senior pastor’s administrative assistant and the office manager, overseeing 14 other women who also worked in the office. I immediately said, “No thank you!” The reasons for declining this position stemmed from lack of confidence and believing that I didn’t have the skill set required to fulfill the numerous tasks involved. Nor did I feel I had the leadership qualities that I had seen in the previous “Super Woman” in that position!…

John Wesley has had a primary influence on my discernment of God’s calling in my life to pastoral ministry. What drew me to personally further my knowledge of the great founder and theologian of the Methodist denomination was his life and preaching of “love” and “grace”. John Wesley is known for encouraging people to enter into a personal intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. I felt God’s calling into pastoral ministry as a very young boy who looked on with admiration as I watched my father successfully lead and ignite the faith of others as the pastor in the United Methodist Church. At 16 years of age at a United Methodist summer church camp, my own faith was ignited.…

As a minister, I feel it is my job to communicate, in word and deed, the unchanging Gospel to the modern generation in ways that help people to understand Christ clearly. Early on in my Christian walk it was apparent to not only me, but also to those in leadership roles within the church – elders, ministers, etc. – that there was a call upon my life to enter the ministry. I was quickly taken under the guidance of the lead Preacher in my local…

Unfortunately we could not get the full details, but we still have a lot from this remarkable young lady. This is her story, and we will do our best not to ruin this for her, and appreciate her giving us the opportunity to display this to everyone, although there can be no promises that we make some errors in some of the details. We started getting the depth of her personality, and we were delighted to hear how she explained it to us.…

I had to start mediating again. I had to exercise my faith, and know that god has a plan for me, and trust in that plan. Everyday has not been easy, there are somedays that I lose my way, and I think God has forgotten about me. There are other days where I am spiritually lazy, and I do not want to put in the work. However, in those times I turn to my tool of prayer, and pray until I feel…

For a middle class, mostly raised as white, American, it’s safe to say I’ve had quite the brush in with Christianity’s definition of God. More than that actually. Most of my family’s life was spent in the Midwest. Ohio to be exact. While my parents and I were hopping around the whole United States on military standby, the rest of my family on my dad’s side was, has been, and always will be, a part of a very cult like denomination of Christian church.…

For my pastoral interview, I choose to interview the Senior Pastor of Huntington Central Church (Disciples of Christ) Rev. Jacque Parlato. I started the interview by asking Pastor Jacque to describe her call to ministry. More precisely I asked her to describe her calling from the time she first received it up until now. During this question Pastor Jacque began by telling me about her background and early life. She informed me that she was born and raised in Santiago California, to parents that she described as people who didn’t have everything put together.…

On August 26, 2005, I gave my life to Christ, and it was the start of a whole new chapter of my journey. I still remember that night vividly in my head. The feelings of excitement, joy, and love were very tangible in my heart. My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…
