And it was about seven miles from home and we would ride our bicycles over there. And it cost twenty-five cents to get in and that was too much money so we’d crawl under the fence in a ditch and get into the place. We’d go everyday, couple times a day. One reason we went was to pitch dimes. They don’t do that anymore but they had a booth where they had these crystal looking plates, with the serrated edges, set on this platform and they had three, six, nine, twelve I believe. And you took a dime and you were about four feet from the first plate. Then you’d pitch a dime and try to skip …show more content…

And we kept her for a while and then we took her to the Ann Morison Park and being the new duck on campus they all just attacked her and I thought “Get those ducks away from her! They gonna drown her!” She was fightin like crazy to stay above the water but she couldn’t cause she couldn’t swim very good. Finally she got up on the bank and we took the other one with us. Then I thought, “Im not leaving hese ducks down here.” So we took the stubby home. I nicknamed her stubby. Then we took the other one… I wanna keep her for a long time. Well I’m in this advanced zoology class so I have to do a bird and a mammal. That means stuff ‘em. So I thought, “Well I’ll just do the duck!” So I went out there and rung her neck, my good duck that I really liked. And we went over and made a nice little body with a glass eye. And we had tanned her all out first and put her in there and I this nice stuffed duck that would just stand right up like that. I took it to class and oh the teacher just really loved that. And had it showin off to

I woke with a start at the obnoxious noise coming from my alarm. It was 9:00 a.m. on a Thursday, in the middle of the summer. Today, I was going to my favorite place in the world: the Tulsa State Fair. I dragged myself down the creaking stairs and into the family room, where I turned on the television. I then ate a bowl of cocoa puffs and went back upstairs to prepare myself for the day.…

I knew from the moment I walked in to Sleepy Hollow park in Des Moines that I was going to have a good time. I was there for the Renaissance Faire during the Pirates and Wenches week. The smell of food and the sound of chatter was heavy in the air as a man dressed as a knight gave us a wristband, confirming that we had paid to get into the fair. I grinned at Sydney, and she smiled back, our excitement showing. My parents talked about the events as they looked over the schedule, but I wasn’t listening.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

It was a hot and humid night in Livingston Parish, Louisiana in the middle of October. My dad, mom, brother, and I were inching our way down the road towards the fairgrounds. The traffic was backed up for at least two miles and my brother and I were restless. At just 9 and 12 we had visions of hot dogs and funnel cakes swimming through our minds, making us ask consistently when we will be there. At almost nine o’clock we finally pull up onto the makeshift dirt driveway heading into the massive parking lot, which was really only a field.…
