“I know applying to colleges is the last thing you want to do right now, but you might change your mind,” a trusted friend told me. It was December of my senior year of high school, and college application deadlines were approaching quickly. I was recovering from a major illness at the time, and wasn’t ready to think about college. My plan was to spend a year living at home and working before I pursued higher education. In the following months, my recovery progressed rapidly.…

Even being an American has it’s problems. Especially coming from a Hispanic background. I was born in South Carolina, when I was five years old barely starting Kindergarten, my parents decided a big change for my brothers and I. We moved to Mexico, we lived there for about three years I started school there, so I never really had the chance on learning English. After I started going to school in Mexico, my parents decided to come back to South Carolina. That’s when everything was confusing, I didn’t speak any English which was very terrifying to me.…

It had been a few weeks since your parents died in a tragic plane crash, though you didn’t feel all that sad. Of course, you were slightly upset, but it wasn’t that bad. Your parents had never really built an emotional bond with you. They were more like dictators, they forced you to be the three P’s: posh, proper, and polite. When you wanted to play outside with the other kids, they shook their head in distaste, your mother telling you that’s not what ladies do.…

t was finally here. I had waited fourteen years to finally be able to visit the ruins of old. It was supposedly a place of knowledge where the Ancients used to come to learn. Apparently people used to have to ¨study¨ in order to absorb information, of course this was all before Pomegranate invented the Pchip to insert into everyone's brains. The Pchip was the solution to a problem that 97.63% of the human population had to deal with on a daily bases: ignorance and stupidity.…

My decision to return to college was purely random. There was no pondering over the decision; no weighing in the pros and cons, no thinking it through or any real thought behind it. I literally woke up one morning and said to myself “I think I’ll go back to college” and I made the call. I called the College of New Rochelle and made the appointment for the admissions test. And before I knew what was actually happening, I was a matriculated college student.…

When I started nursery, it was a different matter. I felt like the odd one out from day one. I was a lot bigger than the other children, so kids noticed, making remarks “which,” I never fully understood, but it did make me feel uncomfortable, feeling somewhat out of place; however, nothing I did to try to fit in made one bit of difference. It never got any easier.…

It was a small box that barely fit my name. I took my time carefully scribing the 21-letters neatly with the mini golf type pencil.
