“Everyone get on the deck!” CO Pichoff yelled. (CO means Commanding Officer. The Commanding Officer for the Eisenhower Squadron was CO Pichoff). I quickly learned what that meant when I saw everyone doing push-ups including myself. Apparently, no one yelled attention on deck when the CO walked in. It was my first drill with the sea cadets and I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know if I should look forward to this day or if I would hate it forever.
The CO then ordered everyone to get ready for morning colors. Morning colors had to be done approximately at 8 am. “Squadron attention!” a Petty Officer stated. Every person of higher rank saluted as the national anthem played over the intercom of the base. “Ready Two” another Petty Officer said. Every person of higher rank put down their hand in which they used to salute.
The Leading Petty Officer gave the command, “Return back to the ready room at 08:15.” I was not used to understanding military time, let alone speaking it.

The Officer explained to us that when the CO walks in the room for the first time, and after respectfully acknowledging the CO by calling out attention on deck, the CO would respond to us to “Carry On”. Field Day simply means to quickly clean up a room or area. Once more the importance of a joint effort was emphasized to us and by working together we would learn how to clean more quickly and

Not a single prized-possession, no metaphoric symbols, no family heirlooms, not even an everyday object that I could somehow pull a deeper meaning out of came to mind. I had no words to describe what I carry, nothing at all. And I then realized that I couldn’t have described it any better. I carry nothing.…

As honors students, we thrive on achievements. Tangible achievements are what, for many of us, ensure that we have accomplished our goals. For this reason, when I learned about the “Honor Cadet of the Flight” award at Civil Air Patrol Encampment, I was determined to achieve it. I tried extremely hard and made sure that everything I did displayed nothing less than excellence throughout the week. Because I was so determined to achieve that award, the setback came across disconcerted me greatly.…

SNC’s five paragraph order was punctuated with stumbling and filler words, but delivered with an authoritative tone. The Mission paragraph included nothing beyond what the evaluator briefed. The SOM was vague and not executable, indicating SNC had not developed an initial plan of action. SNC’s tasks amounted to telling subordinates which order they would negotiate the obstacle. Med-Evac and EPW only contained the statements self-aid, buddy-aid, corpsman-aid and 5 S’s and T. During Command and Signal, SNC elected to restrict communication to hand and arms signals, which indicated SNC was not aware of the content he was briefing.…

Society as a whole, seems to have changed hobbies that are meant to be fun, into more of a competition than a pleasurable past time. There are people in this world that wouldn’t dare to indulge in a sport or hobby, that may actually interest them, because they aren't perfect at it and are so afraid of what the people around them will think. Something that I really enjoy in life is four wheeling.…
