Personal Narrative: Gavin

Decent Essays
I wish I could see Gavin again. He lives in Michigan and though I still go there, it’s only once every four years or so. When I do visit him, it’s usually for only an afternoon and we are such strangers now we barely talk while I’m there. From the moment I was born we were friends up until I moved to California. I don’t miss him, mostly because I only knew him when I was a baby and a toddler. I do, however, want to get to know him again. From what my mom tells me, he is very successful and is going to graduate high school with an Associate’s Degree. Supposedly, he is incredibly smart and interesting and I like incredibly smart and interesting people. Plus I think it would also be neat to re meet him and replace very old and faded memories

Chapter Two I was now driving down the road with a girl I didn't even know, but who thought she knew me. I couldn't imagine what Brad and my mom were thinking right now and how am I going to explain this when I get back to them? My mom is really protective over me as well, despite her blunt questions. I know I had to come up with a good excuse to explain to her.…

Did that really just happen? “Come join us at soccer tryouts next Friday at the main field after school!” read the big, white flyer which I had picked up previously in the week after hearing about this eye-opening news during morning announcements. I was sitting on the bench outside reading the details as I waited in line for the person whose reaction I was most anxiously waiting to see. As a 5th grader, my first instinct was to alert my mom right away, which is exactly what I did as soon as I got in the passenger seat of the all black sedan.…

Prologue Time passed slowly in the small town of Rosemont, Pennsylvania. Nothing bad ever happened. At least, not anything that happened in the eyes of the people that lived there. I moved there when I was sixteen, with my mother, my father, and our crusty old fat cat. My mother was a taller woman, thin- almost unhealthily so, so that her clothes hung off of her a bit.…

On the windy lukewarm night of October 13, 2012, my life changed in a positive way. That day was the day I got my first dog, a female Shih Tzu, and I remember that day vividly. It all started as soon as I woke up with crazy bed hair, and I had a feeling that something would happen. After I woke up, I got dressed, had a nutritious breakfast, and went off to school. That Wednesday was a very stressful day due to the many things I had to do, which were to write an essay for English, a group history project, and a new lesson in Algebra 1.…

You can’t learn if you don’t try When I was in my childhood, I was a very timid person. I was afraid to try all the new things and meet new people. As a result, my dad began to encourage me to try out different things, such as swimming, playing piano and playing tennis, because he thought that if I tried many things, I could become more talented and outgoing. I used to be an obstinate person. If I firmly believe in one thing, it is hard to change my mind.…

Like a storm, my world has been shaky and damaged, but when it all comes down to it, in the end there will be a clear sky and maybe even a rainbow. Fights, divorce, prison, home, prison, house arrest, and amongst it all, the lies are all a part of my world. Everyone has their own little world, consisting of the people close to and around them, mainly consisting of their family. In my own little world I have my dad, my mom, my Grandma Janet, and my four siblings Erin, Lillian, Stevie, and my half-brother Stetson. The world you come from will affect your dreams and aspirations in a way, but no matter what kind of family you come from, that doesn't have to define you as a person because I have overcome the idea that it has to establish who I…

“Failure always comes before success,” that’s what they all say, but in my case, it was never like that. Some are great in basketball, and some are experts in chess, but for me, it was public speaking. I loved it, it was what defined me, what made me feel confident. When I was in preschool, I went to my first poetry recital. It was only reciting a four lines of “Humpty Dumpty”, and I pretty sure I pronounced half of the words wrong, the experience was exhilarating, and ever since then, I was hooked to it.…

Initially, I'll never forget that day. It was a bitter cold March afternoon. The sky was a dull lifeless gray color.
