Personal Narrative: Freshman Year Of High School

Improved Essays
Freshman year of high school was the hardest year for me. I was not ready, and middle school did not prepare me enough for that first year. Going in thinking it was going to be easy, I thought my last priority would have to be checking grades. Not only did I not know how I was doing in school, but my parents were not checking grades to keep me on track with what I was doing. I was not the only Freshman that was going through the same problem. Freshman have no high school experience, and without the help of their peers to keep them on track, they will zone off and grades will plummet. I am talking to parents, although I am not one yet, I am on my senior year of high school, and I too sadly had no parental guidance to keep my grades up as they …show more content…
It is very common for students to quit the sports they enjoy playing because it is hard for them to keep up with the homework they are getting on a daily basis. I had multiple friends who felt as if they were forced to quit a sport because their lowered grades and sports were too much for them. If parents keep track of the grade book, they have the ability to check the assignments the kid needs to do and can be a much needed reminder to do that assignment that the student forgot to take note of when it was given. With the help of parents reminding them to keep their grades up, the kids can continue to participate in sports, helping them in school and teaching them more than just what the school teaches them. Grace Chen wrote a blog on Public School Review titled “10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefit Students” giving off ten reasons students should participate in sports, and a reason why. Chen talks about Community Representation, Fitness, Improved Academics, Teamwork and Cooperation, Positive Mentors, Social Relationships, Leadership Skills, Time Management, Success Mindset, and The Importance of the 3 “P’s”. With the 3 “P’s” being persistence, patience, and practice students learn that hard work helps achieve goals helping them after high school. Chen says playing sports improves academics stating “A survey conducted by the Minnesota State High School League in 2007 …show more content…
A good example is of the book “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak, for it was read to me regularly as a child. In the book a young boy named Max is feeling very misunderstood at home and at school, him and his mom often argue. Max, being the mischievous boy he is, one day ran off to the land of the majestic, fierce creatures named Wild Things. When Max was crowned king he promised a kingdom where everyone will be happy, but soon realises that being king is not easy, and although he is with the Wild Things there is still something wrong. Max decides he needs his mother and he heads back home to his family that he realizes is very important. A book like Where the Wild Things Are makes both parents and children realize the importance of a healthy relationship, and that having one another is the key to a happy

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

My years in high school were quite thrilling and adventurous. Starting as a freshman, I had no idea where I was going and what was going to be expected of me. Over the years I became involved with extracurricular activities which led to my primary interest I had developed in technology and the sciences. As a freshman I joined the Students with Future Interests in Technology Club, Spanish Club, and Robotics Club. These clubs stayed with me till I graduated high school and I have loved them ever since I got involved in them.…

In high school my most outstanding example of a time when I set an example as a student leader was my sophomore year in high school. My sophomore year of high school I was brought up to the varsity soccer team, the team that I was on was not extremely hard working and or dedicated. As a sophomore I was afraid to stand up and verbally tell the entire team that we need to step it up, or we are going to have a horrible season, so I decided to make my statement apparent by my actions. First, I started by always being the first one to every practice, putting pressure on my other teammates to do the same, in result everyone started to arrive to practice earlier. The second step I took was difficult since I was one of the youngest players and the…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

It actually shows that kids grades go down when the end of the season is coming or when they are not playing sports at all. Some may argue that sports play an important role in teaching life lessons to athletes. Yes, you can learn valuable things through sports, but you can take on even better traits through school and teamwork activities in the classroom without the problems that athletics comes with, like injuries and pressure. School comes before athletics and some athletes think athletics are more important than school, so eliminating sports will help these students learn valuable life lessons through school and activities in the classroom with other students. In conclusion we would like to thank you, Mr. Schwanz, for considering to limit sports so that students do better with grades, have less sports related injuries and motivating students to get better…

My freshman year was one of my craziest school year. It came from fake hall passes, to skipping in the restroom, and acting all bad by getting referrals. I remember my ap secretary always used to call me “Diablo” just because i always got in trouble and she said i used to drive her crazy. I just never cared about the consequence of skipping so much, good thing I never got caught. Meeting new friends and new attitudes and a little more of responsibility and to be honest waking up so early every single morning was not that fun.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

At first glance many people think that sports are too time consuming. Many experts have done studies that show the positive impacts sports have on children. Sport participation in school does not worsen academic results despite taking time away from class (Maximizing the Benefits of Youth Sport). Athletes know that they don’t have as much time to do schoolwork, which makes them more motivated to use their time for school. Students that aren’t athletes don’t use their free time for school which makes them less likely to do quality schoolwork.…
