Personal Narrative: Freshman In The Sartell High School

Decent Essays
When the topic of upcoming freshman pops into anyone’s head, their initial thought is something along the lines of being small, obnoxious, and thinking they already run the high school. This was my initial thought at first and it became true. All until I actually got to meet a couple of them and hang out with them that completely changed my mind about freshman and how they are bugs.

In the beginning of my sophomore year in the Sartell High school, I thought it was going to be a good year. It was all going good until I saw and heard about the upcoming freshman. My initial thought of the freshman was terrible and that the year was going to be bad if I had any classes with them. Most of them were very short with high screeching voices. I would always over hear them in the cafeteria about obnoxious things. Splat! The sound of a grape landing next to me on the ground during lunchtime. This is one of the several annoying things that the freshman did. Some of the freshman already thought they could just come into the high school doing and saying whatever they wanted like they ran the place. The overall view of the freshman was that they where as annoying as a mosquito buzzing in my ear.

The first half of school I did not have any classes with freshman because I had mostly core classes and no electives. During the second half I got to be in the same class as

Think about the situation because at one point I was in the exact same spot as they were. When I was in their shoes I did not want the upper classmen making fun of me or being mad at me when I did nothing to them. A lesson I learned is to always try to expand my thinking about a situation. This situation is a perfect example for that lesson. If a question comes in mind be sure to expand your state of mind, when it comes to people you don’t have good first impressions with think again because they might have a lot of similarities with

Almost four years ago, I entered Clackamas High School as a confused, shy, awkward freshman. Soon after entering the hallways of this school, I was assigned to a Freshman Assurance group and met with the group leaders. My group leaders were vivacious seniors, who were condescending and gave very little advice on high school. I felt a little intimidated by them, and the activities that they led made most of the freshmen in our group uncomfortable. They told us about their craziest stories and about the teachers who weren't of the most pleasant experience.…

    1. How will you fit The Prospect into your busy high school schedule? When will you do your assignments, and how will you complete your TP work on a particularly busy week? I'd like to say that I'm naturally adaptive to time-crunch situations. In junior year, I took on two internships that both had scheduled meetings, work agendas, and time-consuming projects.…

I moved from San Diego, California to Derby, Kansas in the summer of 2017. I joined Derby Middle School, I hadn’t been to a real middle school before, even though I was in seventh grade. I was in online schooling with K-12 at home. I was new to multiple classes and teachers, assignments on paper, and I was new to a lot of people around me. When I joined Derby Middle School, I thought of it like nothing, thinking that no effort would get me through the year, I thought that my grades didn’t matter as long as I get C or higher.…

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

Even though everyone who goes to Shakopee High School knows about this situation, they do not know how much it has significantly affected my life. My life changed last year in so many ways. In some ways this has given me more opportunities, but in most cases this event has negatively changed everything around me. Worst of all it has made me lose many friends, given me a bad reputation, and has made everyone think that I am someone that I am not. People I had never met did not like me, discriminated against me in some situations; but on the other hand, it has showed me who my real friends are because they continued to persevere by my side and stuck with me through all of the tough times.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

I thought it would only be just this one beginning, but I realized that it has been many new beginning as in making new friends, and meeting new and fantastic teachers. As well as being exposed to many amazing things to learn. Some of the trends I notice on my transcript is that in the 9th grade my grades we're A’s and one B and this continued on to the second semester with A’s and the one C. The as it progressed to 10th grade my grades started to range from A-C’s and most of the good grades I had were from classes I liked and that I understood. The Classes that I had the easiest time with being English and Math.…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…

Freshman year can be scary at times, with all the faces that students do not know or recognize. Also, the freshman experience new atmospheres, new teachers, new expectations, and harder classes than what everyone had in the Jr. High. There are many things that freshmen have to know about WCHS; they are able to get involved with during their time in high school. “Get involved in a group activity because it will open you up to be confident in yourself and to pursue something you like” says Lauren Campbell a Sr. at WCHS. There are many sports that anyone can get involved in such as, football, baseball/softball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, swim, track, cross country, golf, wrestling, soccer, etc.…
