Personal Narrative: Foley Falconette Dance

Sammy Lewandowski This memorable weekend will begin with dancing for 7 hours of dance tryouts for the Foley Falconette dance team. After I’m so exhausted from dancing with my sister, I will be picked up from the school and brought home to join my family and friends in shearing our 9 unique fluffy alpacas. After we are done, they almost look like an over-sized poodles. When I walk into the barn all I will hear are the screeches of terrified alpacas. They are always stressful when this time of year comes around. On Sunday, after I wake up miserably early, I will start to clean up for Mother’s Day brunch. Additionally, we will pick up my relatives and head towards our breakfast in St. Cloud. When I get there the food aroma will fill my nose and

I have seen the first one you mention though not the second--thank you. Unfortunately the clip of excerpts is missing the solo I remember--where the movement seemed to flow through her body like a force of nature--it was as if she became a rippling stream. Sounds absurd, but that's what it looked like to me! Just a side note about youtube and video: I live far from the centers of the ballet world and depend on youtube for much of my ballet watching these days--I have even formed some provisional opinions, likes and dislikes, based on youtube videos.…

As part of an old high school tradition, hundreds of students crowded into a dimly lit cafeteria and danced until the air hung heavy and sweat glistened off every square inch of exposed skin. The schools that began the tradition of the modern homecoming dance most likely did not expect it to evolve into what it is today; at some point, we, as students, lost the true purpose of the event and instead became preoccupied with image. Even though I would have liked to think that those things did not matter, I still found myself altering my appearance that Saturday night to try and show off the best version of myself. I was not alone; other females joined me amidst a pile of cosmetic products and styling tools, and we had the pictures to showcase…

At the beginning it was hard for the girls to adapt and practice “lady like actions” because at first they didn't have any manners. When they first got there they did uncivilized stuff such as peeing on the bed, being rowdy, and other uncivilized actions. After practicing with the nuns and learning from them, they started to become more civilized and learned about human culture. After the girls spend a short time at St. Lucy’s, “Many…feel isolated, irritated, bewildered, depressed, or generally uncomfortable” (270). Claudette confirms this in her narration, detailing the horrors of civilized life such as “trying to will our tongues to curl around our false new names” (270).…

Hi Ms. Pierce, Hope you had a wonderful break and a nice day, The word I would use to describe my break is deciphering because I got a break from dance and school. For example, I was able to sleep to try to avenge the early wakings during school days and early dance practices. In addition to that, I had nothing to be concerned about. Having a break from both school and dance gave me time to think about myself and what I wanted for my future; besides, I was able to unwind. The time I had was crucial to me because sometimes in the middle of all the activities in the year I have no time to think.…

Following your dreams despite obstacles, objections, and adversity are characteristics of an innovator. Mary Wigman is so, she wanted to follow her dream in dance, regardless of the objection from her parents. In her eyes everyone was a dancer and that dance reflects what lies in the inner self. Mary was born in Germany, November 13, 1886. She attended school in Germany, but on a visit to Amsterdam she attended a dance performance choreographed by Emile Jaques, she was awoken and shaken by the dance, progressing her to the love for this art.…

“When your music begins, you will be in competition mode.” I took a deep breath, it was showtime. I was introduced to the world of competitive dance in August of 2011 and ever since, dance has been the outlet for all of my emotions. I started off as a shy little girl who hid in the corner, barely extending her limbs as I attempted to mock those in front of me. As time elapsed, I persevered through challenging ten hour practices and the taunting of my peers.…

As stated before in our first lecture, dance is a living and fleeting art form. I believe that dance is a living art form because it is a three-dimensional picture to art. What I mean by this is that, art is normally seen on walls or as sculptures, but dance is an amazing opportunity to view art while in movement. If you are anything like me, when I look at a painting of two people or many, I always wonder what it would be like to see them actually dancing, singing, or even laughing. By watching dance, it is my living art form.…

Ballet has always been near and dear to my heart, so much so that I took a year off from high school to pursue it on a professional level. During my year away I came to the firm conclusion that there was far more in life I cared to pursue then the four-mirrored walls I had come to know as home. I was lucky enough to find an amazing high school with a specialized “pre-med” program, the director with whom I have come to know far more as a mentor than as a teacher. Dr. Carlos Pulido is one of the wisest men I have met to date, a retired chief of surgery and certified army trauma surgeon, he is a remarkable example of all I hope to achieve in my life.…

My First Dance Competition The first time I performed at a dance competition was a very exciting and memorable moment for me. I was six years old and insanely nervous. Typically the nerves hit me while I wait in the wing of the stage for my name to be called, but this time it began the moment I woke up in the morning. I remember having to wake up at about six in the morning in order to have time to get ready and be at the convention center in Wichita when the doors opened at 7:30 a.m.…
