Personal Narrative: Flat Stanley

Decent Essays
Are you hungry?I asked to Flat Stanley. I had to start the day with a good breakfast. We made a little noise with the drums, Flat Stanley enjoyed the beat. Around 11:30 A.M. we went to church as every Sunday. Our Pastor, Mr. Rivera, is a funny person when he talks about God he likes to attract our attention. Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

The birds and squirrels were chirping, my dad came out of the tent and went over by the fire and asked me what I wanted for breakfast I said “bacon.” So he went to the cooler to get the bacon.…

In August 1999 I had the privilege of meeting Arthur Ray Hawkins, known to many as “Coach Hawk”. Being a typical teenager, I didn’t always heed to the words of wisdom that he tried to instill into me daily. Not understanding his passion for God and people, I would often get mad when he challenged me to better. Why, because I wanted to settle for being good, yet he impelled me to be great. Not only on the football field in between the white lines, but in my daily walk in this thing that we call life.…

Polished Brief Have you ever wanted something so bad that you thought it was necessary for your life to go on, for me that something was a pet dog. At the age of seven I was begging my parents to get me a puppy for about a year, the conversations usually sounded like this “ Hey mom and dad I was wondering if I could get a puppy this year for my birthday?” and they would reply “ I don’t know son a dog is a huge responsibility, I don’t know if you are ready for this yet.” then I would storm off all angry, because I did not get the answer I was looking or hoping for.…

I worked like crazy in the garden, made albondigas soup and cooked a pot roast yesterday, which is a good thing for the upcoming weekend. My Costa Rican coffee is outstanding this morning and the weather is gorgeous with blue skies and temperatures in the low 60s and highs in the mid-80s, which is perfect for more gardening and some reading on the patio. Yep, already looking forward to the weekend! I'm so happy Marilyn asked me to do this in her absence because it has me contemplating the things I love most. Every day my friends post images of pets, wildlife, flowers, crafts, quotes and children and I recognize it's a joyful expression of themselves.…

My brother Lester was first diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at the age of sixteen. Paranoid schizophrenics often have false delusions and auditory hallucinations, causing them to see things-people or objects that aren’t really there or to hear voices no one else can hear. It’s difficult for schizophrenics to differentiate between their illness and reality. For the most part, they can’t. It was hard for my family to accept the diagnosis, but we learned to deal with it.…
