Personal Narrative: Fixing Up And Driving Old Muscle Car

Improved Essays
It was a bright, cold, sunny September morning. I was preparing to go on a two hour long trip to become the owner of one of the most beautiful muscle cars I have ever seen. It all started a few weeks earlier, my father and i were attending a muscle car show. We talked about all the cars there and that’s when I realized that fixing up and driving old muscle cars was very special to me and I enjoyed doing it. My father had realized my passion for old muscle cars and went to work on finding me one. Of course I wasn’t expecting to get anything magnificent for a reasonable price, se we started looking for fixer upper projects. We found a few different ones until we found one car that I thought was beautiful. It was a 1968 Convertible impala super

When I ride it's like the earth stops at every corner so I can check to make sure a, loud, car isn't roaring towards me. It's like that feeling in your chest that tells you that everything is going to be ok, yet your mind is screaming at you that it won't be. I ride because I was thought that you need to be active in life, but it was never about the one hour of activity time we are supposed to have growing up. it was much more than that. I didn't need help to ride, I needed help to face down my enemies, or conquer my dreams.…

After five hours under Mrs. Gonzalez’s 1997 Plymouth, my hands were so dirty I had to wash them ten times just to see my fingernails again. She was a familiar face around the shop, given that neighborhood thieves had routinely targeted her car. This time, though, they had gone too far. Someone had crawled underneath the car and cut out the valuable catalytic converter, and she couldn’t afford a replacement. When I looked at her and said, “That’ll be $563,” her face turned pale.…

Throughout my entire life I was raised around vehicles and tools. In fact my earliest memories of being in the presence of vehicles is when I would sprinting from my mother's Tan ford pinto up to the Billingsley tire shop to give my father his lunch for the day. I was always fascinated by the brightly colored tools and big machines. As i got older I also recall my Dad leaving a tool box full of snap-on tools completely at my disposal to play with and naturally just as any kid I wanted to be just like my father. When I was about 7 my father acquired a used 1998 Gmc Sierra that had already been modified.…

One problem with my car is that it looks terrible. The once-shiny paint is now dull and bleached from road salt, there are patches of rust around the wheel wells and fenders. There is a dent in the passenger door that someone left while I was grocery shopping last year, and ever since another student hit my car in the school parking lot, the trunk latch has not worked, and I have had to tie it down with a cord. Furthermore, the interior of my car is no better than the exterior. The carpet is stained from years of carrying around two kids and a dog, and the upholstery is torn in several places.…

As a child, I spent the majority of my time in the racecar shop with my grandfather or as I like to call him “Papa”. I was luckier than most kids because my grandparents lived just next door. I never had to wait for my parents to drive me to their house; I just simply had to run across the yard. I spent hours with Papa in his race-car shop. The time I have spent with him will forever remain with me.…

One day I got on my four-wheeler, I told myself that I am going to teach myself how to wheelie. I got on my four-wheeler, started it and let it warm up. Then I put in first gear, then I popped the clutch and the front wheels came off the ground. I had the four-wheeler straight up and down then the front wheels slammed down on the ground.…

My first car was something that I greatly was looking forward to getting as a child and my interest in getting one grew, as the days got closer to my sixteenth birthday. The first car I owned was a Automatic Black 2004 Ford f-150 truck, which I discovered on a website called Craigslist. It was priced at five thousand nine hundred dollars with only eighty-four thousand miles on it, which in my case was great considering that I could only afford a seven thousand dollar car. The truck came with all manual locks and windows and also had a small amount of hail damage that could really only be seen at a certain angle. But even with reasonable price on the truck I still attempted to negotiate for an even lower price to further my luck.…
