Personal Narrative: Five Minuet Break

Improved Essays
I stroll into Olive Garden, ready for another boring day of work. I hate this job, but I need the money to get something special for my girlfriend. As I take my position at the podium, I take a look around the restaurant, which is surprisingly empty. I notice two girls sitting not too far away just staring at me and giggling. One of the girls starts to wink and wave flirtatiously at me. “Just look away and maybe she’ll stop.” In boredom, I start to tap my fingers to the beat of the faint music in the background. Two seconds later the phone falls out of his hand while a girl walks past to the dreaded table three. The guy, in a daze, struts up to the girls’ table. Flirty girl giggles then gets up, while the man replaces her. “I thought he was supposed to meet a date. Is he trying to pick up another girl?” My thoughts about the man’s horrible decisions were interrupted. Flirty girl was striding towards me.
“Hey, cutie. I’m Megan. What’s your name?”
“I’m Finn. I’m on break, so if you need anything ask Drake, whose working

I would like to serve as an Alternative Break Scholar because of the impact of my first Alternative Spring Break trip as well as, the impression that my former trip leaders left on me. During my first Alternative Break that was centered around systematic racism with a focus on gentrification and food insecurity I fell in love with the different types of services that my group and I participated in. The specific activity that I participated in was the act of helping to diminish the effects of food insecurity by packing boxes of food to disperse to the populations of people without the access or opportunity to purchase food items. While doing this service, I learned the importance of giving back and being grateful, many of the workers at the…

Friday Mornings I rushed my full stomach to my room and I pulled out the bottom of my semi formal clothings and pants drawer. Being the control freak that I am, I also picked out my brother’s outfit. My mother was kind enough to let me select my own outfit to school as a second grader. Enrolled in a small, private, and conservative Christian school, where the moms are very in everyone’s business; not many of my friends were allowed to pick out their “free friday” outfits.
