Personal Narrative: Finishing High School

Improved Essays
I believe that I will finish high school. Finishing high school is my number 1 goal. Even though there are times I want to give up, I don’t give up. I know i can do it! When i moved to Texas, I stopped going to school because they are not as strict as they are in Illinois. Texas was really boring to me because everything was a driving distance. All I wanted to do was to have fun. I did not have a car at the time. The only time my friends would go out and have fun was during school hours. One day we all decided to go to an abandoned house just to hang out. There were about 7 or 8 of us there. We had to break a window to get in. So Jona took off his shirt and wrapped it around his hand. He punched the window on the bottom right corner and broke

The transition from High School can often times be very frustrating for students. L. Lennie Irvin opened my eyes to one of the bad habits I picked up on in High school. The habit of straying from the topic or theme could cause me to fail not only papers in English but my other courses as well. I personally had a hard time with English my first semester of college. In High school I was always at the top of my class and my teachers would tell me how great of a writer I was.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

For myself personally, making my student life easier comes from the absolute excellences provided by the guidance teachers within my school. From the very first day of grade 9 to now my last year of high school, the various fields of knowledge supplied whether in regards to classes, personal matters, planning out my future, clubs/involvement, community hours, reviewing undergrad programs/univerities, or simply going in to talk about anything was overwhelming helpful. Knowing that there were those besides family and friends wanting me to reach my greatest potential is very comforting.…

I walked into the familiar main entrance of the school, crossing my arms and setting my face into what I thought was an intimidating glare. Although I looked like an angry toddler, with my round face and childish glower, my attitude came across very clearly: I was not happy at all to be back at school. After getting into a huge fight with my friend group earlier that year, I was starting high school essentially friendless. It wasn’t as if I didn’t have another group of people to fall back onto.…

Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. I especially loved the fact that there was always a place for everyone. If you weren’t too quick, then discus was your event. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you.…

My life began to spiral downward before fifth grade began. I found myself an endless loop over summer vacation of waking up, experiencing the day as a blur, sleep, then repeat. This drove me to discover a new way to spend my day. On the television I noticed a recurring advertisement for a game called ‘World of Warcraft’. At first I instilled the mindset that I could spend my time pragmatically but eventually I succumbed to boredom.…

As a rising high school senior, I have experienced the toils of being a high school student. As a freshman, I failed as a student by slacking off and getting into the wrong crowds. But, in my gut, I knew that something was wrong with the picture I was seeing of my life. Everything around me was telling me to rise up and take a hold of my life. They say a person’s mind is their limit, so with a great mentality, anything is accomplishable. The transition to high school shattered the confidence and perfect self image I built in middle school. My grades plummeted like the stock market in 1929 and I panicked like the world was collapsing. However, I managed to hold myself together because I knew there was always going to be a tomorrow and I needed to be prepared for it. As my peers were doing well, I on the other hand, was not looking so relaxed.…
