Personal Narrative: Fifth Grader's Essay

When I entered the room, my sister, sitting at the table finishing her homework, chirped, “Did you like my drawing?” Turning with a carton of milk in hand and pouring myself a glass, I asked, “What?” “The one I put in your room two days ago,” she replied with an incredulous whimper in her voice. “Oh yes,” I replied, “I can’t wait to see it!” I walked into my room and the drawing sat atop my dresser, unnoticed and neglected. Crayola scribbles of red, blue and fluorescent green garishly whorled and danced in a fifth grader’s masterpiece.

Every kid in town had the ‘mysterious’ pens so they weren’t brag worthy, but still some people claimed that the pens glowed when put next to each other. There was one exception to the pens, Chris had a pencil. Chris, being the humble person that he is, doesn’t say anything about having a pencil while everyone had a pen. That Saturday, while Chris was writing with his pencil, his friend Laura came up to talk with him about the pens. Laura had chocolate brown eyes and blondish colored…

That Day in Fourth Grade “People come into our lives for a reason, bringing something you must learn, and we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them and we help them in return. -Glinda” One of my best friends today, Teonna Frye, has influenced a lot of the choices that have made me into who I am today. I first met her as a “not-so-little,” brown-haired fourth grader. She was a giant that towered over all the kids in our grade.…

3 YEARS PREVIOUS Patches of grey light twinkled in through the dusty blinds. Dark blue, sheer curtains lazily swept over them. Papers upon papers lay littered around the room. They lied on the unmade bed, the unvacuumed floor, and the little desk next to the door. They were under piles of unwashed clothes and stuck in-between text-books from the local college.…

It was a normal day in science class, the soft sound of pencils rubbing against paper swam through the air in an almost harmonic synchrony. Ms. Medina, my teacher, had just distributed the work packets to my entire class. I looked at it’s thickness and immediately got scared, it was three pages long! And I hadn’t paid even the most miniscule amount of attention, I was miffed for sure. I looked up to my friend, “Hey dude, were you paying attention to anything?”…

Seventh grade has been a mix of amazing and crazy. You might be wondering why I don’t have a chapter for sixth grade. In fifth grade, I had expressed how I felt bored and that school work was too easy. My mother took this into account. She talked about it at conferences with my fifth grade homebase, Mrs. Breza.…

I bit my lip and tried the scale again. I felt my fingers fly through the progression, and I played the phrase just as my mind imagined it should sound. I rested my hands and waited for my teacher, Ms. Julie to respond. We had been practicing this piece exclusively in preparation for my audition to a prestigious middle school for the performing arts. I was intimidated by the audition as it was, but I was beginning to feel more intimidated by my teacher.…

In a classroom half-filled with students, sitting in every other row, only the sound of pencils scratching paper permeates the air. No talking or laughter here. At the head of the classroom, the children’s teacher sits at her desk watching her students. Some of the students look worried, stressed; others look relaxed. At times there were little circles to be darkened, or lined, blank paper to be filled.…

“When someone touches my phone, I automatically turn into a ninja.” While in math class, I learned never to leave my phone sitting on the edge of the desk or it might get knocked off. I watched as it fell onto the ground.…
