A couple months ago, I was sitting in my room, about to start watching my daily dose of vampire diaries for the day, when I felt a vibrate come from my pocket. I pulled out my phone and saw I got a text message from my cousin Amela.
It read: “Hey there’s a concert in davenport tonight. Lets go!”
This is when I shot out of my bed and ran into the living room where my parents were seated. “Oh hey there you are,” said my mom.
“Yeah, I got home from work about an hour ago. But hey, I was wondering if I could go to a concert in davenport tonight. Amela and I wanted to go together. Is that okay?” I asked.
Both of my parents got up out of their seat. My dad’s face got really red as he spoke, “Why would you even ask that? We need you to go into work tonight. Your mother and I are going to your aunts house. The waitress called in sick. You know you have to leave your schedule open all the time in case we need you. “

We’ll be back at home at midnight, you get off at 9 and afterwards I need you to wash my car, scrub the floors, and walk the dog,” my dad explained as him and my mom were walking out the door. I pulled out my phone and texted Amela back: Can’t go. Sorry. My parents are Nazi’s. I have to go into work AGAIN and then do chores. I walked back into my room, with tears in my eyes, as I redressed myself in my work clothes. After about 40 minutes of being restaurant, I finally had a customer. It was Amela! I asked her what she was doing here and she told me that tonight, she was my fairy godmother and that we were going to that concert. She ripped off my apron and handed me a top, boots, and some leggings to change into. I change in the bathroom and when I came out all the lights were off and the sign was said

I remember the day as if it was yesterday. The year was 1941, and as I sat and tried to eat my breakfast I watched with fear as my mother spoke to my father, her voice trembling, she talked about how Yugoslavia had been invaded by the Axis powers, and was now being split into occupational homes. My father, while trying to hold back tears, was attempting to calm my mother down. I, even only being 16, knew very well what was happening, as I had constantly listened to my parents talk privately about the current events that were happening, and I was no way prepared for it. Later the next day my family had started to pack.…

My mom knew the owner, and had signed me up to volunteer here over the summer to help with this organization’s horse therapy. Thoughts were swirling through my head – “I have nothing in common with these people!…
