Whenever I tried something new it did not go well. It was disgusting and unbearable. It was asparagus. You know those green stick looking things that are kind of like jr. trees but skinny. Yeah...that’s what I am talking about.

I remember every moment of it like it was yesterday. My sister and I were sitting at the dinner table, my dad watching television, and my sweet little dog begging for food. (That’s usually how it goes.) On everyone’s plate was a piece of porkchop, a sweet potato, and a couple pieces of.... Asparagus. Yeah I know I said it. My sister and I look at each other with a scorched look on our faces. We both shook our heads and whispered, “I’m not eating that!” like it was an option. My dad shouted over the stand separating the kitchen and living room, “Oh yes you are!” He sounded kind of happy about that. For about 10 minutes we sat there and ate porkchop and sweet potato with our asparagus pushed up onto the corner of our dinner plates. Finally my dad came in there to see how much we had eaten, and he was not that thrilled. “Eat those” We four (Me, dad, Rheagan, and Jake) sat in there just looking at each other until Rheagan and I decided to take a bite. When we got home we all sat down ready to dig into dinner. “Ok. Dinner is ready!” My dad said. He plopped the plates on the table right in front of us and stood to the side so he could see our faces. It was asparagus... (how did I not see this coming) “Why?” groaned my little sister. “We will have this every night until you decide to appreciate the fact that I atleast cook food for you. It only just depends on what your actions are.” My dad said pleased with his chose. He watched as Rheagan and I ate all of our asparagus.... “YUM” I said surprised. “DISGUSTING” my sister said without a doubt. “Told you it would be good” My dad said

Two plump brown faces peered around the corner at me, their wide brown eyes taking in my pale complexion and straight brown hair. Hearing their giggles I turned and looked up at them before responding with one of the only phrases I knew of the spanish language, “hola” “¿cómo estás?” This caused a panic and they quickly disappeared, laughing to themselves and speaking in a language I had only begun to understand. A few seconds later I could feel their eyes staring down at me again, I quickly shot my head around to stare at them again, this caused them to dart away even quicker before being followed by a uproar of giggles. This experience was something I had grew quite accustomed to in my short time in Guatemala.…
