A rumbling rouses me. The plane is jolting around as rain pounds against the windows like bullets. Me and Aviva tightly grasp each other's arms. Outside my small window I see nothing but swirls of gray and black chaos as a flash of lightning arcs across the sky. The sky that was once a cloudy, smoky gray is now dangerous. A deep rumble of thunder makes me jump. I see nervous glances exchanged around me as the lights buzz and flicker. The sound of voices around me climbs higher as panic rises.The soothing male voice comes back to reassure us that everything will be okay. “These bumps are nothing to get uneasy about. Just stay calm. You’ll be in France in..” His voice cuts off. The power is dead. The lights flicker on and off once more until pitch black wins the fight for power, swirling around and engulfing us. “AVIVA! What’s happening!?!” I yell, my voice quavering. “Jaeden, I have a really bad feeling about this storm. Here. Take this locket,” Aviva yells above the mayhem. She chokes back a sob. Suddenly the most deafening bang I have ever heard explodes around me and all I see is a flash of pure white lighting. The shrieks from the other passengers are barely heard over the ringing in my ears. The screaming and yelling of other people mixed with my own is so out of control that my head hurts and I feel dizzy with terror. The plane is jerking left and right, hurting my neck. A deep pit of terror that had once started out as butterflies is now a swirl of tangled fear writhing around in my stomach making me feel queasy. All of a sudden the breathing masks drop from above the seats. I grab one and fumble it over my face, and the shuffling beside me tells me that Aviva has too.
