“Come on, drink it and you’ll become one of us.” she commanded as the other people in the gang joined in chanting “Drink it, drink it.”
My conscience was telling me not to do it but, I did it anyways. I wanted to impress them, so I take a sip of the alcohol. The taste was strong and unpleasant at first, but after finishing the last drops of from my red Solo cup, I wanted more.

Walking into the kitchen, I notice her sitting down at the kitchen table wearing her glasses and doing the bills. I sit down next to her and take her hand. She stares at me with a concerned look. “What’s wrong dear?” she asks while she places her glasses on the table. “Mom, I know that it is too late to apologize and it may mean nothing to you, but I am incredibly sorry.” I feel the hot, wet tears stream down my face. “I am sorry for pushing you away and not listening to you. Like a fool. I’ve never realized the value of having a mother like you, who is kind and loving. I know you wanted me to be myself and stay away from my friends, but I didn’t listen. I became a whole different person. I’ve been a mess for the past year and it’s entirely my fault. From this day forward, I promise you that I will not disappoint you anymore, mom. Please forgive me.” I begged. “My son, I will always forgive you. Don’t become distant with me again. We only have each other and it hurts me when we fight.” my mother said while tears fall down her face. She brings me into a hug and says with glee. “I am so glad your back, son. I love
